Hey everyone. I just want to introduce myself to the board and hope to learn more about Vipers through your knowledge and opinions of the car. I currently drive a black 05 C6 (base) that i enjoy driving (but never could really get into the look of the car) and am toying with the idea of getting into a GTS (preferably between a 99-01 in either black or red with black interior).

Having been seriously reading the board for the past few weeks, i've learned what to look for and avoid certain cars that's already on the market. For instance, the black with cognac and the black with silver stripes that are listed at Palmer Dodge caught my eyes at first, but because of what several people have said about those cars and its background, it made me realize that those two cars might not be a good choice (even though the suggested price are low, obviously for a reason, than most dealers for the same year and mileages) for me. Plus, being that i live in Maryland, i possibly wouldn't have known about the car's history.

Anyhow, looking forward to learning more about the car and possibly asking some of the locals near the major Viper dealers (Roanoke, Ringgold, Palmer, Premier, Woodhouse, etc) for assistance (down the road) in checking out the cars for me.

Sam

I have also owned several corvettes and still have my Z06.

I went with a GTS as soon as I saw the C6 at the Detroit car show-I just can't get into the body style, however the performance upgrads are awsome.

So I bought a GTS.

Good luck, have fun with your search, that's half the fun-you will love your Viper

Welcome! I've owned Vettes also but must say I prefer my 94 Viper. I just feel the Viper has retained more of a true sports car feel. Glad you're with us and have fun!

I have had my Viper for 2 years and just got a 1999 C5 at a great deal for a summer DD. I also have driven my friend's modded C5 Z06. I still see the Viper as my dream car come true. Chuck Tator at Tator's Dodge in South Salem, NY is also one you should check out speaking from personal experience in dealing with him.

Good luck with the search. I commend you for reading first instead of just posting. Doing your homework goes a long way in this field.

SSR,

I look at cars for sale all over the place, as a hobby. I like buying from private owners, but some Dealers have great reputations too. You'll find out who they are by reading here.

Ebay is not always the greatest place to buy a car, but I wouldn't be afraid to look for cars on there. Like this one: 99 Red/Black. 11k miles, Buy It Now 48k. might be a little high $$, but check it out. It's located in Tarpon Springs, Florida. ( and I don't know the seller ) Item number is 280019865009. Sorry, I don't know how to attach the whole Ebay thing. But that is a great looking car and you mentioned Red/Black. If I was looking for a Red 99, that would be a car to look at, in my opinion. Tasteful light Mods, cool touches to embroidering, etc. Didn't say Window Sticker, but sounds like the type of car that would have it. ( I like Window Stickers !)

Anyway, Vettes are nice cars, but do I need to say the looks of your C5 doesn't compare to the GTS. Two different cars tho SSR. Not the same type of driving or feel, at all. Not as comfy as the Vette, not a lot of bling and gadgets insides.

Have fun "thinking about it".

Sam if you want a closer look at the underside of a Viper take a drive to Leesburg, there is a 4 post lift in my garage with a GTS on it. While you are here check out your first power adder, a Roe S/C. lol

BTW the Leesburg Dodge dealership is under new ownership. In the past few months there have been several GENII Vipers in their inventory.

Welcome to the dark side ;)

Research, research, then some more research!

Be aware if you look at Florida cars the state has a reputation for 'washed titles'

Good luck, I've driven Vette's-they are perfect training wheels for future Viper owners

One thing is for sure, the VA/MD region is one of the largest and you will get plenty of help should you decide to purchase one of the most bad a$$ cars in the world. Good luck with your research and feel free to ask any questions.

On a side note, I am cracking up with all the new avatars. Big is definitely the man!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and all the suggestions as to where to look for the car. The more i look for a Viper, the harder it is to be logical and wait for the right car. So far, the "Search" function has been used on a daily basis and i've contacted a few dealers (Premier, Woodhouse and Ringgold...so far). And with what's been written, i'm trying to learn from you guys as to how you guys had acquire your Vipers (and i'm sure once i get the Viper, i'll be asking about where to have it service, whether i can do my own oil change, etc) and what to look for and watch out for. Thanks again!
