I always found it interesting that GM can't build a Z06 in a convertible... or they won't, yet Dodge builds a 600 hp Viper in a convertible no problem? Is it because the extra framing would weigh the thing down and it would not be fast enough, or is it that they can't even modify the current frame to handle the Z06's power? Just makes me curious.

Like many I'm sure on here I started with a Vette. Great cars and I loved driving it. Then I went to a GTS and now to an SRT and I can say that it would feel like a step backwards going to a Vette again. I still love them but I hate the fact you see a TON of them every day and that its hard to tell a 30G C6 from a 100G ZR1. I also love the fact that a Viper is a drivers car and the Vette just has too many nannie features. if you dont like attention then buy the Vette. If you dont mind attention then get the Viper. You cant get out of the car without someone taking pics or asking questions. With the Vette you're just another car on the road.

That was a myth back in the 90's with the C4ZR1. It simply comes down to dollars... There is not enough market to build a specific Z06 Conv. in addition to a regular Z06 AND regular Vert.

What they did with the later C6's is introduce the GRand Sport edition. Which has upgraded wheels and badges, and appeals to the consumer who was a little more than just a normal vert. But yet, is cost effective to produce. Becuase its really just some decals an wheels.

Keep in mind the Z06/ZR1 frame is aluminum, while every other Vette model is steel. I'm sure there would much extra cost modifying the already low production aluminum frame for Vert duty.

Iam trying to decide between a c6z06 or a 06srt10 coupe because they are in my price range. I like the z06 performance but from what I have read the 06 srt10 isnt to far behind if any. The car will not be driven but once a month since I work out of town and only home for 1 week out of the month. The viper seems to hold the value much better since they havent made nearly as many, and are way more exclusive. Iam asking this question because Iam sure that alot of the guys on this forum have probaly owned a c6z06 at some point. So any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Steven
Some other things to consider is the Vette being a v8 will be a little kinder to your gas bill however many of us dont really care on that issue. The mods and accessories on the Vette are a bit cheaper too. If buying used, there a tons of Vettes for sale giving you a better shot on a good deal especially in these times. Insurance can be high on both. The value hold can be good or not so good on either make depending on the model and year.

I didn't realize that Gen II and Gen III were that close in the 1/4 in both time and MPH.

Yea their isnt that much of a differance straight line speed wise..

You figure 400 rwhp for a GTS and RT 10 and 410 rwhp for a ACR vs 440 rwhp for a SRT10...But then the srt10 has 1 inch taller rear tires...So yea only a lil faster...2-3 mph...same driver who trapped 117-118 in a GTS would probally hit 119-120 in a SRT10...fast for a GTS is 121 and for a srt10 is 123 so you get the picture..

Now road course wise its a differant story

It has been good info all of it. I want the viper because not many people have them and when people see it they gotta look back for a second look. just the awwhhh factor of the viper has clearly made my decision easier.

This is pretty much what it came down to for me. Not so much for the way other people look at it, but because I have to look back and see how hot it looks.

The only reason I ever considered the vette, was because I thought I might want to take it on a trip now and then. But the Viper is rather short on storage space. After a bunch of back and forth, humming and hawing, I decided to look for a Viper. It just has that pop factor when I look at it.

Simple ask yourself the question:

If I am in a Z06 and I see a viper next to me would I want to be in it?
If I am in a viper and see a Z06 next to me would I want to be in it?

which ever question you chose will give you the answer. I picked a Z06 knowing I love the viper, because I thought it was the smarter buy. My Z06 is up for sale now and looking into buying a viper. I have a supercharged Z06 with headers high flow cats and exhaust, if I see a viper next to me I would die to get into it even if it is slower.

Hope this helps

Either you WANT a Viper, or you don't.

I think this probably sums it up well. Viper is my first sports car ever. Considered getting a Vette for about 5 seconds.....nope don't want that same car I see 20 times between here and Wal-Mart. ;)Don't want foreign. Ford GT.....Wow, would love to have that, don't have the cash. Viper Gen III....I remember the first time I saw one walking out of a hotel in 2003....WOW! That is what I want.

as someone who owns both (not the same years your looking at) the vette is a better all around sports car, great power, ride quality, bells and whistles, ect, but theres NOTHING like a viper, if I could only pick 1, it would be the viper every day of the week

Every night before I go to bed I tuck my kids in bed, brush my teeth, say my prayers, and peek in the garage to see my Viper. After 14 years of owning Vipers I still can't believe how cool it looks, and that it's in my garage. No disrespect to Vettes (because I really want a ZR1), but I just don't view them in the same league.

When you drive a Viper, you never know when you will end up on YouTube, so don't pick your nose while driving! If you're ok with this minor stipulation, come join the greatest driving experience of your life - you'll feel like a Rock Star!

You ask here, the Viper will be the favorite pick. Ask on the vette forum, it will be a no-brainer the other way around. Drive them both and decide for yourself...

when I was a vette owner I would often day dream of running into a viper on the street.I imagined how awesome it would be to hear it rev and try to challange him to a street race...I wondered just what the V10 really sounded like...But in 2.5 years of vette ownership it just never happenned..

In the Viper I see vettes all the time..Saw a Z06 two days ago while in my Viper..But it dosent even register..Now that I have a viper I daydream of running into a f458 and what the exhaust really sounds like and challangeing him to a street race....

Get the viper and you will see exactly what Im talking about..Get the vette and keep dreaming about seeing a viper...Id honestly take a 1996 GTS over a 2006 Z06..But what do I know????????

The funny thing about a Viper is it will draw the biggest crowd at a local car show, but rarely win any trophies. I have always thought that was curious??? But, young women in their 20's rarely are the judges!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

If boys between the ages of 8 and 18 were the Judges Vipers would win all of the shows. There are some women that appreciate these cars but my experience has been that there is no particular age group. At first I thought they were just using the car as an excuse to hook up with me... but I found out that wasn't the case:dunno::rolleyes::lmao:

It's tough to ignore "the elephant in the room"

The funny thing about having a Viper is that people always feel compelled to say something or make a gesture and It's to the degree where they seem to almost feel awkward if they don't.

Prior to my viper ownership I was also considering a Z06. My wife and I made a trip to a local dodge dealer which had 3 2006 vipers in the show room, also a Z06. Well when I entered the show room I made a bee line straight to a cooper head coupe, while noticing the Z06 in my perefial vision. I can still remember my wife telling me "honey look a Z06". Once seeing the viper side by side with the Z06, it was an easy decision. Now I am patiently waiting for the GEN V, hopefully it will be offered in the violet color (purple). :drive:

here goes a long rant..

maybe Im way off base but here goes...

Sure a Z06 with a few options is around 80K
Sure a coupe is around 90K

Sure the coupe is fast
Sure the z06 is a lil faster

Sure in pictures they look a lil alike from the front
But in real life their is no mistakeing them

-vette valve covers are cheap plastic overlays painted red with LS7 on em
-gen3 valve covers are actually the metal valve covers painted red

-80K z06 interior is the same one in the 45k vette and seats ****
-viper interior is just for the viper and the seats are great

-z06 clutch glazes after a few hard launches
-viper clutch is bullet proof

-z06 brakes fade after a few hard laps
-viper brakes are bullet proof

I like the Z06 and its what I would be driveing if their wasnt a viper...but honestly when you see them side by side it becomes very apparent quite quickly why the viper is a lil more expensive..

when you race a buddy and your viper can go run after run no prob and his Z06 clutch glazes and he cant get into gear until it kools down..Well you start to get the picture

Sorry you are getting boys... My car is usually surrounded by girls... Either way, the good news is the younger generation loves the Viper and when they get a little older they will want what they loved when they were young. Human nature. That is why the muscle cars are so popular with guys my age. Hopefully, that equates to values holding up or even increasing...

I didn't mean to imply just boys... Pretty much everybody seems to appreciate my GTS but the young kids really go crazy and it seems to be a real favorite with them... It's amazing how many people want to be photographed with the car... Yes.. a lot of young girls as well... I had one Hottie at a Summer Cruise in kissing my car and lay her arms, chest and face on the hood and start doing a little grind action:omg::rolleyes:

Even the haters and Fanboys from the other camps just can't ignore the car...
