Have new wheels and new TPMS sensors.

Is it hard to calibrate the new sensors?

Anybody know how to do it?

Thanks

It takes about 5 minutes at the dealer... You need the DRB III tool to put the Tire pressure box into learn mode. You then use a little doughnut shaped magnet around each tires stem starting with the left front and ending at the left rear (going round the car in a circle). The horn will sound once per tire learned.

After that you should be all set. It may take a block or so for the tire light to go out as the module has to capture data from each sensor before it will set you straight. The sensors activate once you exceed 30mph.

If you have two sets of wheels do you have to calibrate the TPMS every time you switch wheels or will it retain the calibration for all 8 wheels? I would like to have a track set of wheels and a street set and have the TPMS work for both sets without have to take the car to the dealer each time I switch wheels.

If this is not possible I’m thinking of going with an aftermarket TPMS that monitors the temperature and pressure of each wheel independently.

Thanks.

That sure would be nice, but the system is quite old in fact, and can only work with one set of tires at a time. You can place a set of rims on your car without getting a tire light as long as you return to your monitored set within I think 7 key cycles. Of course the light also clears once you put the monitored rims back on and exceed the activation speed.

The aftermarket systems are nice because they add a display for the pressures. Also good if you are tracking...

Keep in mind the viper is supposed to be about "simple" and not tech. The TPM system is a necessity with run-flats however, so it had to adopt the simplest version of the system.

I decided to just keep them off the new wheels rather than using straps with the Iforged setup...

I really see the need to have the system with the run flats..

Since I have new rims and tires on the car..I will be testing the tires everytime I go for some spirited runs....

I was afraid that was the case. I think I’ll go with an aftermarket TPMS for my other wheels.

Thanks for the information.

Actually, you may want to do a search or call a reputable Viper Tech. I seem to recall a previous post regarding this same question where the response was that the Viper TPMS system actually has the capacity to store two sets of data (i.e., two sets of wheels) without the need to perform recalibrations. Thus, you could have one set of street tires/rims/TPMS snesors and another set of track tires/rims/TPMS sensors. If you tried to mount a third set of rims/tires, however, you would need to perform a reclalibration.

Hope this helps.

Joe - I left my TPMS disconnected since putting on the IForge wheels and just live with the low tire indicator. The fix is easy though if it really bothers you. Buy a bottle of white out :rolaugh: I love it when I solve a problem.
