California Smog

I have a couple of questions concerning Smog Certification in California. I am interested in buying a 95 RT/10 that was originally a PA car. Now the car is registered in Arizona. The car has passed smog in AZ. However, since it was smogged in AZ, it has been Arrow Rebuild, Cat back system, K&N's and Smooth tubes. All the above do not seem to me like they should affect smog. However, I live in Caifornia. Any input from anyone that has bought a car out of the state of California and smogged it here would be helpful. The owner say's he can smog in AZ before i buy and if i can get the Caifornia "limits", I can compare and see if it will pass here. Good idea? Bad idea? Thanks for the help.

Does it have more than 7500 miles on it? If not, it cannot be registered in CA (or at least not without extreme difficulty)...

Actually that law has been changed recently I believe. BUT, I did not have any problems at the DMV when I registered my car new (<7500 miles). I just had to have it re-smogged.

The car im interested in has over 10,000 miles. Im just wondering if a car sold in 1995 in PA would have the same smog equipment as one sold in CA. It passed smog in AZ, but, this is California and we all know our laws for smog are tougher.
Does anyone have the califonia smog "limits" (numbers), so that i can compair to the numbers the owner gets when he smogs the car in the next couple of days?

I brought my 94 from Dallas last year. Passed with flying colors and that was without mufflers, cats only.

Well, since I happen to have had my 2000 Dodge Dakota
smog tested in CA yesterday, I have the numbers in front
of me. Here they are, with max allowable (where specified)
and mine for comparison. I don't have the results from
my Viper or I would have posted them.


At 2500rpm:
HC (ppm) max: 170 my pickup: 1
CO (%) max: 1.0 my pickup: 0.0
CO2 (%) max: unlisted my pickup: 14.9
O2 (%) max: unlisted my pickup: 0.3

At idle:
HC (ppm) max: 100 my pickup: 0
CO (%) max: 1.0 my pickup: 0.0
CO2 (%) max: unlisted my pickup: 14.8
O2 (%) max: unlisted my pickup: 0.3

They also check for:
PCV system
Fuel evaporative controls
Catalyst
Ignition spark controls
Fuel injection
Air injection system
O2 sensor and connectors
Wiring of other sensors/switches
Vacuum line connections
Other emissions components
Fuel cap integrity
Fuel fillpipe lead restrictor
Emission control warning light

Hi Bill,
I remember ....I bought mine in Cal. so I didnt have any problems smogging it.....I would think as long as all the smog stuff is still on the car there would be no big problems...GO FOR IT!!

(Bet you cant wait to make a bonzai run thru Carbon Cyn. huh??)
