Bought the car from out-of-state with tinted windows; they look to be about a 20% level. Rear window (on an RT/10) is indeed tinted - although I'm guessing you are interested in the hatchback on a GTS - I know a number of club members that have that rear hatchback fairly dark tinted (10 or maybe even 5%). Rear window is legal in all 50 states, as far as I know. My side windows are tinted (which looks very nice on a black RT/10) - drive it just about every day to work, and I've not been pulled over in the year since I got it - but, if the top's not on, you can't see any tinting, as the windows are down and the back window is out.

1. 20% I believe; but I just took it off and I am putting 5%. STEALTH BABY!

2. Yes but if you have a GTS I would make sure you tint the way you want it because I heard if you pull it off it can take your defrosters with it.

3. None (KNOCK ON WOOD AS WELL!)

1. Limo for top of windshield and rear hatch. 35% for side windows.
2. yes.
3. zero. above is legal in TX. The tint company you select should be able to tell you what the legal %s are.

Hi,

20% sides and Limo hatch on sapphire blue..no tickets.

The installer mentiioned that the "frosted" black edges of the GTS hatch made it challenging for initial adhesion. But once dried...not a problem. Almost an "essential" option here in Texas!

I don't like it too dark, so I use 35%. Also, I only use high quality matalic tint. It protects the interior from the sun (fading). This is more important to me then the look.

Keep in mind that matalic is lighter then traditional black tint, so if you like it dark, go on shade up.

I have 20% on the sides. Didn't get the rear of the RT/10 done though. So far I haven't been stopped. I have been stopped in all the other cars I have tints on though with one ticket so far

Hi,

I know that laws vary from state to state. Heck, from town to town at times. Please check before trying, but I believe that you can do anything to the rear window, including painting it. So long as you have dual side mirrors. In other words, as long as you can get clear shot of your side mirrors, you don't need to even have a rear view mirror. As far as driving, you'd be able to do so safely, once used to not having it. I drive trucks for a living. I rarely use my rearview when in my Viper, or any other 'regular' vehicle.
Nowadays, I believe that these laws are more geared towards making life easier and safer for law enforcement. I would check in with your local police to get their input. While I agree that tinted windows can look awesome on a car, it seems to be a silly reason to get a ticket.

I had 5% on all around but it actually takes away from the car. Your focus becomes the tint rather than the car. We took it off & went with 20% all around. Looks 100% better. No problem with cops although I'm smart about it in town I put the windows down just in case. Call Ritchie at Eastern Glass at 610-373-7979 in Reading, Pa. He's the best & will vouch for the 20% idea also. Tell him I sent you.

Charles here is a belated answer to your question. This is Huper Optik "Drei" tint on the side windows in 35%. A bit too reflective for my taste but by far the most effective tint film available (does not bend well so does not work on rear windows - for that Huper rebadges a film made by Madico) and of course I live in the ultimate hot weather testing area so effectiveness is paramount.

20 percent, if I recall. I had it done in Texas just after I purchased the car. My Viper now has 10K, and the tint seems to be holding up nicely.

Back window only.

Never pulled over. I live in Florida now, and dark tint is pretty common around here.

Somewhere I saw a somewhat plausible alternate reason for the California law against front side-window tinting; due to reduced driver visibility at night (in addition to the fact police can't see inside as easily). The night vision issue is somewhat valid, although I personally don't agree with the restriction against ANY type of tinting.

Before I put the tint on mine, I asked a cop friend of mine about the tint issue.

He told me that he (as a cop) prefers the cars without the window tint for safety reasons. But he also told me that it was the insurance companies that were the ones who pushed for the ban, because of limited visibilty, especially at night, especially with the "limo tint".

Re: Calling all cars with TINTED WINDOWS...

All right I posted a few more. You couldn't see the car yet anyway, it's down in Texas. We put an AEM on it & it's getting tuned. Hopefully get it back this month! Thanks for the compliment! :2tu:
