It looks like I will be getting an 01 or 02 Gts very shorty and I was wondering what the stock cam specs were on these cars? I ask because I deft want to change the cam to something more aggressive with a nice little shake ;) So who here have done a cam without touching the heads and what kinda of power gains should I expect?? Is 30rwhp reasonable from a cam alone or am I dreaming? Also how big a cam can I run without sacrificing drivebility? I will prob do headers and exaust as well :D

Hello,

Without getting into the exact specifications of your cam, I can tell you that it does not have the overlap that the 96-97 cams have, therefore it will never have a "loping" idle and it will not allow certain modifications..like exhaust systems to maximize their potential.

Drivability is directly proportional to the amount of vacuum at idle when it comes to Viper v-10 engines. The most common problem of a poorly designed camshaft is "hanging idle", followed by the lack of ability to use vacuum assisted items like airconditioning.

We have several different grinds that have been installed and work very well. Your driving style and planned modifications will play a large role in correctly choosing your camshaft. The camshaft should be considered as part of a well planned combination of modifications that when working together achieve the maximum result. Our customers drivability, performance and 1/4 mile times are proof that our combinations work.

Please feel free to contact me at any time to discuss a combination that is guaranteed to suit your needs and expectations without sacrificing drivability.

Tom

So what kinda of realistic gains can I achieve without sacrificing drivebility? Can the idle speed be raised on a Viper? If so, how? I am limitited to the tuners or installers here in the northeast. I am looking for top end hp gain btw. Thanx for the help Tom. :)

We have used about a dozen different camshaft grinds for the Viper. All of our camshafts are designed for maximum drivabiltiy. This is why Car and Driver rated our 750hp naturally aspirated motor with the HIGHEST drivability rating for all the Vipers tested.

Almost all of our camshaft profiles are designed to pass emission sniffers. We have so many different grinds to suit our packages and our customer demands. If you are interested in learning more, or have some general questions, feel free to contact us to discuss your specific needs. We have a great cam that works well on stock Vipers with upgraded exahaust systems and another that does wonders on a car with modifed heads. Most recently, we gained over 40 rwhp with a mild cam upgrade.

Thanks.

Moundir,
Take a closer look at the cam specs as listed, the last 3 lines: Exhaust lift, Intake lift only marginally different, but the last line, Overlap shows 6 degrees more for 96,97,98.
Later,
