You will get a 'check engine' light and your mixture will go weird. If you're going to run catless in a 2000+ car, you should also get a MOPAR ECU and/or Hennessey's O2 sims.

I removed my cats and had no problems, just a big grin because I love the noise GTS now makes, he bellows! Vipers should be seen and heard! You will also be able to shoot flames from your tail pipes, if you lift off after full gas! You will not pass an admissions test with out cats; I have a high-flow on flanges to slip in once a year (they only test one side over here). I have no trouble with MIL lights, but my export Viper does not have rear O2 sensors. Your sills will run way cooler.

Aside from non-compliance with emission standards and an obvious increase in db, Vipers emit a fairly noxious odor in the cat delete configuration. Also, if it goes open loop (check engine light), power will be down; by some estimates as much as 10%.

I tried that.... Never could get the check engine light out. Four sets of O2 sims and 1 map sensor later, I'm ready to put some hi-flow cats back on it.

Good luck.

So there is a 'benefit' to owning an export Viper if you want to go catless! I have a Euro ECU, but don't have rear O2 sensors, although I have noticed that the wiring is there as far back as to the plug where the sensor plugs in. I guess my ECU is programmed for no rear O2s, you couldn't just pull your rear plugs to avoid check engine light???

Nadine,

I wish it were that easy. The computer looks at left and right bank O2 sensor values and if those values aren't right, you get a check engine light, the ECU richens the A/F mixture and your car blubbers at idle. O2 sims (simulators) can be wired into the harness to replace the O2 sensors so as to fake the computer out. Unfortunately, they have not worked for me.

Wish I had your ECU!

My advice to those considering removal of the CATS? Get the three inch CATS and exhaust.

Cheers,
Paul
