Does anyone have access to the Dodge system that can check if a particular recall was done on my new (to me) '01 GTS? If seen a thread about the recalls on the car that said something about a problem with the PCM/ECU causing PING. At times, I get heavy ping above 4K RPM when under passing load. If the recall hasn't been done, I'm going to see if the Dodge dealer will honor it.

My VIN is 1B3ER69E91V702109

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

THANKS! The site says they are all complete which is what the previous owner told me prior to purchasing. So now, I'll have to deal with the PING. May be another bad tank of gas? I'll do some searching and see what I can come up with.:dunno:

This car has no recalls that apply to it. There is a TSB for spark knock if using 91 octane fuel. The fix is to reprogram the PCM. I would be looking for some other problem. Old fuel plugs Wires.Fuel filter. Intake manifold leak vacuum leak.

Great, now where do I start? The plugs are new and I'm running 93 octane (10% ethanol). Since this doesn't happen all the time, I'm going to start by assuming that it's fuel related (not all gasolines are the same).

I have a new fuel filter and plug wires, but not really looking forward to tackling that at this point as I'm not that familiar with the mechanics of the car yet. Muscleheads is on the other side of the Metroplex and I'd have to take a day off work just to go over there.

I'm planning on getting the SCT Flash programmer for Christmas, so maybe starting with a fresh programming may help?

Recommendations?

I was actually just out in the garage looking at the task and will probably do it this afternoon. Looks like you remove the windshield plenum (4 screws) and that should give good access to the distributor. Opening the wire looms isn't obvious. Can they be done by hand or does it take a small screw driver to release the latch?

Also, should I use di-electric lube on the boots or not?

Great info. I just ran my VIN and it says:

Description Type Issue Date Status
STEERING AND DIFFERENTIAL FRAME REPAIR
SAFETY
05/16/2002
INCOMPLETE

So should I just take in to a dealer to get it done...
