... well these two videos will answer that question in detail! I explain why you should or should not worry about doing so.

One thing that I did in these videos was use a super abrasive polish by Meguiar's to do this demonstration (Meguiar's Diamond Cut). There are those of you who will think that this polish being more abrasive will cut your work in half and want to go get a bottle (instead of staying with the much safer alternative, Adam's Swirl & Haze Remover or SHR). Let me assure you that this is not a smart route to go because of the type of damage this stuff can do to your paint. You will eliminate one issue and be staring at a totally different type of damage that will require some know-how in order to remedy. Don't make that mistake. Stick with SHR which will leave your paint much more manageable using Adam's Fine Machine Polish (FMP) to remedy the aftermath of SHR.

Adam's Polishes (two of a few being SHR and FMP) have been engineered to work together to achieve effortless, outstanding results. Mixing them with other brands is for seriously experienced detailers, who know how to maximize a given product's potential. If that is not you, stick to products engineered to work together and are packaged to do so.

With that said, here are the videos!

After watching these videos, you should feel a lot better about machine polishing your vehicle. After all, I teach kids how to use this thing all the time. :2tu:

Junkman, I think you could just stand on stage and talk and people would laugh. You should consider standup. Your videos are entertaining.

Question: I am definitely a novice and I bought a Flex last year. I have only used it once and it worked great. What do I need to be careful about with it so I don't burn the paint? Should I not apply much pressure? I like to use Zaino and I apply it by hand then use the orbital buffer to remove it. Is this not safe?

You should have your own show man, seriously, you really should. You ever gonna be in Oregon?

:rolaugh:

Actually, I do have a TV show that I do but it has nothing to do with paint. It's a computer show. Yep, I'm a TV geek. ;)

Kentuckiana 2 Day

No plans to be in Oregon but hey, never say never! :)

The thing that you have to be careful with while using the Flex is using the wrong or too aggressive of a compound with the wrong pad. That will easily take paint off the edges of the car if you use the thing on a high enough speed. Remember, the Flex is a "forced rotation" unit so it doesn't give or slow down. Using something Like ZPC on a speed of 6 and riding an area like the top edge of the hood could be fatal for your paint. I highly suggest that you get a PC and master it before using the Flex for paint correction.

If you are only using it to remove wax, you should only be using a waxing pad that has no cut. If you are using one of those "made in China" bonnets that they sell, then you are doing more damage to your paint than you realize.

Now me as a stand up comic? I don't know, but people on my channel keep calling me Dave Chappelle! :rolaugh:

Thanks Junkman.. I bought it from Tito at turbo wax last year and I was clear with him what i was using it for. He recommended the pad I have (which has his company logo on it) and I believe it is a white pad.

I would have to know the manufacturer of the pad to say for sure but white is normally a light cutting pad. If it is, that is not what you use for wax. Make sure when you talk to him again that the pad has not cut, just to be sure.

Ha, noob here. I thought I had seen most of your videos and will make sure to watch these twice.

My poor Viper needs some serious TLC for the summer.

I am thinking of doing a cleaning, 1st time clay bar, then trying to work out a few of the swirls with Adams SHR, then adding in a wax.

I don't own a PC and don't think I can get a new one past the household financier. I was actually thinking of doing the Swirl and Haze by hand. I was planning on following roughly the same strategy as you would with a PC, but take it slow and by hand. (I'm already envisioning this to be a P90-esque workout). Any tips to make it shine and not mess up the paint.

It's a 08 Viper, never clayed, light swirls from a few very fun, but ill-advised bikini washes :smirk: .

If you were able to get an 08' Viper past that household financier, a PC should be a walk in the park :D I couldn't imagine trying to polish by hand :omg: .... wax by hand OK, but not polish.

I've had the policy that no matter what is on the Honey-Doo list it always requires some new tool.

Can I hang that picture? Sure, I just need to run down and get a hammer.

"Don't you have a hammer?"

Yes, but it's a studding hammer and I wouldn't want to put a hole in the wall. I need a finishing hammer to hang a picture. It's a guy thing and you wouldn't understand.

"Ok, but don't take too long."

I just can't see a way to squeeze a new PC into the picture. Not unless I can use it at some point to polish the kitchen floor. :rolaugh:

quick question

in the video you say that the diamond cut (now the 105) is aggressive and shouldn't be used by a novice

I ordered the 105/205 Meguiar combo to work on my car, is that gona be a problem or will it work fine?

Adam's sells a hand kit with SHR and Revive Polish but that's only for cars that have had a perfect paint correction already or a car that is in darn near excellent shape already. Anything else is going to be like a P90-esque workout times 1000. You couldn't pay me to fix paint that way. Not to worry, you can't possible do any damage to the car (your heart on the other hand... :crazy2:). If you do choose to do it by hand, make sure that you get the Revive Polish too as it has to follow SHR.

The PC is great for cleaning shower glass and grout on tile floors. It also works great on shower stalls and floors. Justified! :2tu:

Those products are fine. Check out this thread in its entirety. ;)
