Are my eyes going bad? Does anyone else have a problem seeing the display of the radio with the top down(daylight)? I seem to have to shade the diplay with a hard at times to be able to see station/disc status, am I the only one? I know its not major issue, but quite frustrating at times!

I've got the same problem. In addition, I'm always adjusting the volume up or down depending on my speed. Does anyone make a radio that has a speed sensing volume control?

Thanks.

Both problems here. That is what you get with a standard radio. The Gen II had auto volume adjust at least. The sound is much better but the head unit quality is substandard. I would of thought that by now they would have MP3 capability as well. Sigh. Doubtful that an aftermarket would provide decent fit to the dash so we may just have to live with it.

Is there a radio in these cars. Owners manual mentions parade function on the lights suppose to make radio light brighter.

Parade function is when you have your lights on (like in a parade) and want the dash lights, including the radio, to be at "daylight setting". Unfortunately, it doesn not make it any brighter when the lights are off (daylight). I have a tough time seeing it when the sun is behind me and reflecting off the display. I would think it could be a problem in many convertibles and is just the nature of the beast. Oh well!

Glare on the radio face is one of the first things I noticed when I put the top down. It really wouldn't cost much to make that change for the '04 SRT, would it? And, I still don't care for the vertical mounting arrangement for the gauges. You shouldn't have to look that far down from the windshield to scan the vitals. Things happen quickly in this car.

If you turn the dash light dial to the position just before the position where it turns on the interior light you radio display becomes quite bright. My car is a Canadian car so the fog lights automatically come on as daytime running lights - maybe this makes some sort of difference?

Actually, Dean, I hve to either lean over or take my right hand off the wheel to see anything but oil pressure.

In my past reply to this issue I have made a mistake, and what I thought worked actually does not! Sorry for the wrong info...

The GenI and II car's head units had transflective LCD displays that were easily readable in direct light. However, it was not a standard Chrysler head unit, rather it was a slightly modified Alpine aftermarket head. The SRT/10 made the switch to the standard DCX corporate head unit, which uses a VFD display. Which, unfortunately, tend to wash out in direct sunlight. Not much you can do about it.

Sigh. Doubtful that an aftermarket would provide decent fit to the dash so we may just have to live with it.

there are some install kits which conform to the opening in the IP and mount a single-DIN aftermarket head unit. They usually don't look too bad. Though there are two problems:

1) aftermarket stereos usually have EL displays, which still wash out in sunlight, and

2) the sound system's EQ curves are stored in the factory head unit. If you switch to an aftermarket head unit, you lose the equalization and it's likely to sound worse.
