Can\'t get EPA MPG!

My window sticker on my Viper says I should get 11 MPG (City) and 21 MPG (Highway). I paid $3,000 gas guzzler tax just to get my 11 MPG (CTY) and 21 MPG (HWY).

My complaint is this -

I just filled up and did the math and I'm getting 12.5 MPG City.
I also get 22.5 MPG Highway.

In no way was I even remotely trying to get mileage better than the EPA window sticker.

Do I need to turn myself in to the EPA for flagerantly violating their mileage standards set for the Viper?

Will they force me to take a refund of my gas guzzler tax?

You could demand a refund, but then you're be liable to pay the "light in the loafers" tax, which is much heftier than the GG tax!

Best bet? Say nothing to the government and FLOOR IT!

In order to get EPA figs city, you MUST use the skip-shift lite as a mandatory shift-up indicator!

SUN RA MEOW - I had the skip shift eliminator installed at Woodhouse before I picked up my Viper. I knew I was going to have to pay $3,000 to guzzle gas, and for that money I was going to guzzle it in any gear I d*mn well felt like. On this last tank of gas I even tried to alert the other drivers when I shifted by making the tires squeek and to put a semi-permanent indicator on the road (2 stripes, each 13" wide) so I could measure how far I could travel between gear shifts when I came back the next day. I do realize that I have shamed the entire Viper community by not have tried to find where the floor is under the snake pedal yet with my foot on top of the snake pedal, but it's been HOT in Ohio, and I didn't want to have the air conditioner think I wanted to race and turn itself off so I'd have that extra 8 horsepower. I did however scare a lot of people who lined up for short fast rides with me, and that should count for something. I noticed the gas guage had moved noticably lower after giving about 10 rides to people who had to swear that they had gone to the bathroom before I let them in my Viper for their short & fast ride. Maybe my shamefull gas mileage is due to only getting 93 Octane gas and not the 91 Octane that's required by the owner's manual. Oh, well.

Hey Kenney,

A/C cuts out at WOT, so you won't loose any power, the viper engineers were speed freaks too, just like we are...so the whole "It's hot" thing doesn't fly...now get out there and bald a tire or two!

Sorry.I didn't mean to call any of our members stupid.Its what I think of when I see that light come on and I am talking to myself.The light will go out when you get above 1800 rpm in first gear.However if you really want 2'nd gear when the light is on stick it in 3'rd or any other gear for an instant.Don't let the clutch out.Just move it to 3'rd or whatever then back to 2'nd and 2'nd will engage.Also if it pisxes you off and you yank hard enough it will go into 2nd anyway.Sorry,My sense of humor is not always obvious.That arrow tells ME to get going stupid its the right pedal.Please no jokes about what lever to yank on. Got 14.2 MPG.

With 3 Vipers, you need a gas station. That's why I bought one

OK, this time I did a lot of practicing lower RPM shifting as if I was driving in traffic (driving mostly done in city at hours when there was little traffic).

Made a trip up to Seattle / Tacoma area yesterday and I ended up getting 21.5.

And I was laying the rubber down in some spots. If you drive a viper as soft as possible it should be easy to get 23+ MPG.

No idea...and Jesus ain't gonna help you at speeds in excess of 160 mph! I still think your right foot is not close enough to the floor...is your floor mat wrinkled up under the throttle? I can't get more than 8 MPG in town...
