Car show... there always has to be \"that guy\"...

Did a little cruise in type thing tonight. You know, when all the local guys flood an empty parking lot and stuff. Did it because a few good friends of mine were going to be out there.

Anyway, needless the say a crowd had formed around the snake in about 30 seconds upon arrival, and stayed that way for 20 minutes. There was this guy.. this white ****** trailor-trash looking guy. You know the kind... dirty cutoff t-shirt, long hair, red faced...

Anyway, all I would hear for the rest of the night was "he must be scared to run me". This guy had an old 1978 corvette. Complete with slashed up interior, bullet hole rims and paint flaking off every quarter. The WHOLE NIGHT, it was "you don't want to run? Ya skeerd?" kinda crap. Get this, he had a 350 w/ edelbrock aluminums and a single 4bbl. Stock 225 series tires on the back, no chasis mods. Automatic. I had to restrain myself many a time, because I am HEAVILY against street racing.

Why does there have to be one of "these guys" where ever we go? What does a 50K car need to prove against a 3K corvette? Now if it was a C5 with a blower, then it would have been a bit more "in my league" if you will. Still, just pissed me off because his "lackies" kept tempting me to race. This was my response:

"Ok, sure. Buy-in is 5,000$. The date and time will be agreed upon by both parties upon signing the agreement (was writing something out at the time). The event will be held at xxxxxx drag strip. Best of 5 runs, no power adders. Run as is where is, no slicks or race gas. Funds must be verified before said runs will be made. My friend jerremy here will hold the cash until said race is completed. Please sign here". Now you got to imagine me rattling this crap off as smooth as silk like I was closing a business deal at a power lunch or something.

Hehe... he quickly said "Nah man, nevermind" and left LOL. Did a launch accross the parking lot, what a JOKE... I'd be supprised if he was pumping 350hp through that trans to an OPEN rear end.

Oh well, I guess there will always be "these kind" out there.
One eventful part of the evening was sliding sideways around the parking lot (that stuff is VERY slick)

Re: Car show... there always has to be \"that guy\"...

We get all the rednecks and ricers in Florida like that also.
civic with a header, pipe, intake and neon lights.
I know a guy who beat viper, a Z06 ..... etc.

I usually ignore the BS and ignore them.

One time this guy was really getting on my friend PET SN8K, he persisted on running his mouth and trying to impress his girl and friends at our expense, I just turned to them and said:

"Hey, I'll run you for titles at such place, you got your car paid off, I DO!". And I pull my Title from my car.

Right then they usually start backing off a little, then I say

"I want to make it an even bet, how much is your car worth, $15,000.00. I have $85000.00 in mine, why dont you go get the differnce and we will run for even money - title for title.

They say, I dont have that, I just say, "you expect me to risk $85,000 car against your $15,000 car, its not worth it. If your so confident, put your money where your mouth is, with a few four letter words.

At this point, they are running for cover and realize they are way over their head.

Then I just start getting really agressive with then and egging them on. I guess I can get away with it a little more than some because of my size, 6'4" 274. I just start acting all crazy and scatter like flies.

The next time we seen them, he was all nicey nice and being cool.

When folks say they wanna run, I just say

"I'm at the drag strip almost every weekend - never seen you there - whats up with that?".

If they come back with some kewl street rac3r dewd crap I just tell them that I've done jail time before for driving to endanger, evading, and all sorts of other stuff and that it's not worth it. This has the added effect of labeling you a "********* guy"

. Whether its true or not isn't the point.

Or, if they are being REALLY obnoxious (which usually stems from jealousy over your car that is actually nice, as opposed to their crap version of a semi-nice car thats in bad shape), you can just say "wow, thats an awesome car... can I see the motor?". When they show you, say "would you be interested in selling that motor? It's really awesome... and I've been looking for a new starter motor for my Viper and this looks like it might have the balls to do it!".

That gets em REAL steamed!

I'd wait until you couldn't hear me and then say all that stuff. Then I would do the ricer flyby after following you and making sure you were exiting the freeway!

MadMax, Get your "rules of engagement" speech printed up like a legal document. Have about 50 of them in a folder. Tell the guy, "I get this sort of thing all the time, here's how we do it", hand him a copy and tell him to fill out the form, sign it, give it back to you and meet you at the track on the specified day. Get a notary seal if you want to really blow them away.

I have been on both sides of the of the situation. Whenever I cruise the Viper out to or through the local gathering. Inevitably, I get at least one person who wants to run. I just tell them the truth, I don’t like to beat on the Viper. It’s just too nice of a car. Most of the onlookers usually agree and the situation dissipates if they persist, I volunteer to go get the Nova. That almost always takes care of the situation.

The other side of the coin is when I cruise the Nova and the posers are out in full force bragging that their cars make 1000 RW HP and nothing in the parking lot can touch them. (These are the guys who have never had their car to the track for fear of finding out how slow it really is.) Those guys I tell “we don’t race dynos” and ask them if they would like a free reality check. That is when you get the same old tired excuses “Well, my car makes sooo much HP it doesn’t hook” or “I got $50,000 in my car, what do you have in yours?” That is when I explain to them that “I understand, it would be pretty embarrassing for a $50,000 car to get drug by a $15,000 car.”
