Carbon fiber parts (world\'s lightest steering wheel?)

I used to have a subscription to EVO. Anyway, there was a series of articles relating to making the lightest caterham ever. The company involved was Reverie, a British performance carbon part manufacturer. They put some great looking and extremely nice pieces into the car. Here is an example of a steering wheel weighing only 270 grams. I had done a search for their website a ways back to no avail. Tonight, while flipping through the latest issue in EVO, I saw an ad from them. These parts are not viper specific, but that wheel sure looks nice...and expensive too. Tons of different styles and sizes.

Looks nice, but probably not very comfortable in use?
Also, cf seems to shatter in accidents (based on some cf
motorcycle bodywork I've seen). I don't think I'd want
to chance something like that in case of a head-on....

I too like the wheel. CF does shatter, but for it to shatter, it takes awhole lot more force to do so. CF is great, stronger than steel and flexes a bit to absorb impacts....you should see what my X fiances Ferrari F50 looked like after it hit a guard rail doing 80.

I like carbon fibre. It's very tough against knocks, although easy to scratch.

I had a hood on my Mopar A-body that was made of kevlar/CF and it weighed around 7-8lbs compared to 70lb for the steel one. The guy who made it ran it aorund a track but forgot to put the pins on it - it flew off at 50mph, blounced off the road and into the scenery. He stopped, picked it up, put it back on, put the pins on this time and it was none the worse for wear other than some scuffing along an edge - easily repaired. A steel hood would have been a write off.
