hello, I'm looking at buying a Viper, but I am wanting to run it on carfax first. I was wondering if carfax protects you from fraud/ripoff, etc the same as the Ebay Protection program. Or does carfax just tell you the history?

thanks

Can not remember if they do or do not but I would not lean to heavily on Carfax. There have been people that bought a car and the Carfax was clean at time of purchase only to look up their car later ( a year or more :omg:) to find some kind of accident.

Carfax is worthless. Better off having somebody look at the car for you. Anybody with 2 eyes(or one for that matter) can tell if a car has been repainted or bodywork has been done.

Cool, I know ebay offers Ebay VPP, but is there anything similar for buying from any different site? I mean aside from sending the money to the seller, and crossing my fingers that it arrives, is there any company that you send the money to in trust until the car arrives? Some for of protection? Buying a "local" viper is not an option in my case and i am finding out how to work things

I would not only look at Carfax, but I would also look at AutoCheck as well and compare the two history reports. I would highly recommend having a tech look at the car.

I would look at Carfax and Autocheck to compare the car history. Some of these reports you can tell if the car was in an accident or if the odometer was tampered with. What you should do is have a tech look at the car because these reports do not always give you a complete history of the car

carfax, autocheck are places to start at best but not to be trusted. call a viper tech like tator and let him run the vin for warranty work, get a local VCA member invlved to look at the car for you and help with the transaction

The thing is any purchase will be long distance. It's not as though I can drive there, look at it, have it brought to a tech. Makes things more risky when buying them from so far away

Ya, I was thinking of finding out if a Viper member can go look at it, but with some of you guys owning 30 Vipers, I don't want a 31st to be added to a collection and me be SOL. :)

Last Spetember I bought a car for my wife that had a clean carfax, but it turns out the car was in an accident at some point. If it makes a difference the car we bought was a 2007 Charger SRT-8.
