I’ve stated before that I’m a cheapskate so naturally I went with the cheapest cat-back I could find. The system I purchased is from Mopar Performance. It basically consists of Borla XR mufflers and some short pieces of pipe that comprise the tailpipes. The tip is rolled-edge stainless steel just like the exhaust that sells for $700.00 more. I purchased it from one of our fine sponsors here. Prior to purchasing it, I asked him if there was any reason I need to spend $700.00 more for the “other” system that seems to be popular with Viper folks. He said no. The system I got cost $550.00.
It’s been on for over a week now and seems fine. I wish it was a bit louder at idle but since I’ve never heard the “other” system, I have nothing to compare it to. When I get into the throttle, it gets rather loud. At WOT it kind of sounds like your standing next to a twin-engine turbo prop airplane going down the runway.
I guess the bottom line is that without ever hearing other systems out there, it’s impossible for me to say whether it was the right choice. Some folks complain about “drone” with certain systems. I have no idea if my exhaust “drones” since I have no idea what people perceive as “drone”. To me, it sounds fine. Perhaps someday I’ll hear another system that’ll make me change but until then, I’ve got better sound, less heat, and supposedly better power for $700 less than the “other” guys.
