Catch cans have moisture in them, not oil

After having them installed for a couple weeks and putting about 150 miles in them I check to see how much oil had accrued. Upon draining them the fluid ran like water and had a slight brown tint to it. I know that I do run fairly rich, even at closed loop, but not sure why this is there. Is it normal? It does not smell like coolant, it smells slightly like oil and gas mixed. Hard to describe. Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

By the way I have 1 catch can per valve cover, running right off the front ****** and the catch cans are mounted by the washer fluid reservoir and the same spot on the opposite side of the car.

Mine has the same mix. I think it has to do with the condesation the engine builds up after cooling down/sitting in the garage.

Short trips, and the engine oil not getting up to high enough temperature will cause this. When the oil gets hot enough the moisture will evaporate off and you will not have this problem. Too many short trips and then back in the garage. Be sure the oil temperature comes all the way up not just the engine temperature.

Don't know the cause but after the car's been started and left to cool in colder weather, I get some clear water-like stuff followed by a whipped-up gray sludge-like stuff that drains very slowly. I don't think the watery stuff is an issue.

Nothing to worry about I had the same thing on my old cobra, the oil causes condensation in the catch can and the vapour emulsifies with the cooler air in the catch tank its a mix of oil and water light brown with slightly white mushy mix :)

Dont pour it back in the engine :D

As was stated, cold weather, low temp thermostat and the engine oil not getting above 212 are all culprits.

Just made me a little nervous. It is a decent amount that accrues. I do run a cooler t stat and tempt were a little lower. Glad I'm getting it out and its not staying in the motor though.
