CAUTION - Potential Problem on SRT-10\'s

While installing a navigation system and XM Satellite system in my 2003 SRT-10, we had to remove a few components under the hood. While the air intake was removed, we noticed that the belt on the drivers side of the engine had worn away the mesh covering of a hose and started to wear on the hose that passes by the belt on its way to the bottom of the fan assembly.

I'm not sure what is inside this hose but it would be hard to notice or repair on the road if it was cut and leaked. We temporally used a plastic tie to pull it a small distance away from the belt so it would not cause any further damage. The problem is the area it needs to be relocated is on top of the steering joint. If it is moved to far to the right when the steering wheel is turned the steering assembly may wear on the hose. This may be something Dodge may want to look at correcting? Any thoughts from those of you with tech knowledge?

Thanks for the post. Checked my SRT tonight and found it was close but not touching. Put a tie rap around it until I can provide a more prem fix.

I think that it is from the power steering pump hose. I don't have SRT but that happened on my GTS and I lost all the fluid. I had Chuck relocate the hose so it was away.

I don't think it is because it attaches to the bottom of the fan assembly. It must be water going to or from the radiator.

Jerry, the fan on the SRT is powered by the power steering pump. If the hose is coming from the fan module then it is a power steering hose.

It looks like it is #1, the low pressure return hose. What happens if it springs a leak? Car overheats? Steering goes out?
I guess I better take it to the shop before I hit the road for a coastal Viper run this Friday

Sir, be it a Viper or a Pinto, any wearing hoses, or damaged ones like yours, are obviously not meant to be "heavily driven". Not that it will cause problems but not worth it. Know what I mean?

It's in the shop today. I'll post any update when I have the car back.
