Ceiling Height Advice Needed

I am about to finalize plans for a new garage which will include a standard model Revolution Lift. Both snakes have a maximum height of approximately 48", although I want to be sure that it is compatible with standard sized cars as well. With that said, what lock heights have you all used for the ceiling calculation with what minimum clearance to lowest ceiling obstruction?

Meeting with the architects later today so there is some sense of urgency! Appreciate it, thanks.

I've been told the min ceiling height is
the height of the first car + 2" clearance + height of second car + 2" clearance + 4" for the thickness of the ramp.

Sorry, I won't be able to specifically answer your questions, but here is my setup.

I have a ProPark 7LL which will allow as much as 6' clearance (in the highest locking position) underneath it. I park a Chrysler 300C underneath my Viper with lots of headroom above it. My wife's minivan would not fit due to the roof rails.

The inside height of my garage is 11'. The top of the runways of the lift are at 6'5" in the highest position, so there is plenty of space for the Viper. I had to modify the garage door to run all the way to the ceiling when opened so that it does not interfere with the Viper on top of the lift.

If you can, 12 ft is best. Just about any lift will work. You can then stack cars, etc....

Thanks guys. My concern was anything that isn't apparent when calculating heights along with what is a reasonable vehicle height for the average daily drivers. Assuming I have the ceiling height flexibility, I used the default standards in the link below with the maximum lock position. Am I missing anything that should be taken into consideration?

Minimum clearance to lowest obstruction 2"
Top vehicle height 63"
Runway Thickness 5"
Drive under height 63"
Required clearance height = 11' 1"

You want the XLT for you vipers as the car centers better because its wider and the width you will want if you have a full size truck.Make sure you get the extended ramps!
12' ceilings, it will allow you to lift your car so you can walk under it with the cars hood UP!
you don't want to be worried about hitting the ceiling.
A must is a side mount door opener. to rid yourself of rails. don't lose that available air space up above the lift.
check around for pricing..it really varies on the door opener. here is the model i have. its super quiet.

What kind of house are you building. Is the garage facia lining up with the house? If so you will be limited in your options without changing the whole house. What height is the main floor? Are you using floor trusses?

all I have to say is if you are buying a 4 post lift buy a back yard buddy they are by far the best.

You will be able to do it under a 9' ceiling with a Revolution, using their chart you should be able to figure it out to the inch where the locks are. It worked for me. If you can make the ceiling higher it's easier to do work on the car.

I have the Revolution as well (the XLT model which is just slightly longer than the standard model). I measured the maximum height of my ceilings at around 14'. The structural crossmember you can see was a little over 12'' from the ground. As you can see, I can raise the lift to its maximum height with the Viper with no clearance issues. I park a 4-door sedan underneath it and there is a ton of additional clearance. In fact, I think I have parked our minivan underneath and it still fit (but barely):

I was always told the height of both cars plus 12''for ramps and locking position .

Thanks for all the comments and posts. It has proved helpful. I have some limitations given available space in a one car garage hence the need to be sure I am not coming up short in any dimensions. Looks like I can go with an 11' ceiling and a Revolution Standard Lift. Viper on the ground and Cobra in the air. Long renovation ahead of me once we start in April/May. Looking at Mid November before I can bring them back home under one roof. Worth the wait for sure.
