Charging question

Just a quick question when it comes to charging, tendering, and jumping the battery/car. I noticed a charging post under the hood. Can you use this post to put a battery tender on, charge the battery, or jump the car?

Yup....just find a good solid ground anD your all set, I think I use a stud right below the master cylinder reservoir

Cool, thank you....probably seemed like a silly question. It was more to see if I could hook up my battery tenderer there.

That's exactly what I did, ran mine out through the front fascia, secured it to the hood release with a zip tie, this was my first mod to the car.

I have my charger lead come out near the wiper, its easy to to hook to the quik disconnect.

Thanks for starting this thread. Just want to make sure I understand as well. Just attach trickle charger to the positive post and a good ground and plug her in? That's it? Any good pics of your setup and any good brands of trickle chargers? My plan here in Maryland is to start the car once a month. Thanks!

That's all it takes. Most use a Battery Tender Plus. Works like a charm and very dependable. :2tu:

Use "battery tender" couple different models out there. I have them on a few things and they work perfect. Don't bother running the ,car once a month it will only hurt you if you don't take it out and really run it. The moisture that you will cause in the exhaust will just sit there if you only start it and let it run for a few. I park mine in November and set the battery tender and don't touch it till March-April. I have snowmobiles with tenders on them also and don't touch those for 9 months and they fire right up

One of the Deltran Battery Tenders is the way to go. It can be left on the battery permanently without risk of damage. No need to start the car unless you are going for a real drive. I use the Battery Tender Plus.

One other option to consider is connecting the Battery Tender directly to the battery at the rear of the car. The benefits of this are a more efficient electrical connection and less wring length required for access to the connector… This can be done with an adapter harness ty-wrapped to the battery box that is accessed through the rear vents. If you back your car in this might be better too.

Of course, you could also opt for the DSE quick release battery panel with the battery tender connector hard mounted to it. This is what I and many of my customers have chosen and are very happy with.

Used the Harbor Freight $4.99 charger for 5 years, works fine. Connected it directly to the battery.

Whiee the CTEK units seem to be very good, I have not tried one as yet.

Like others have mentioned, I have used the Deltran Battery Tender Plus units for many years...with NO trouble, failures, or incidents. In a couple of cases, Viper batteries have lasted 8 years with these units.
So far, I have accumulated 92 "vehicle years" on the Deltran units...with excellent results.

One nice feature of the good ol' Battery Tender Plus is that it returns to it's normal trickle-charging state after a power outage. Some of these newer, microprocessor controlled units do not! My motorcycle battery charger from Shorai (for a lightweight LiFePo battery) requires the user to select a charge mode after it's power is disconnected. Bad design there... if you forget about it for a few weeks after the power goes out your battery could be dead.
