last week I was looking for info on the check engine light and started to reread the golden viper tricks, tips thread.

I got to the one about the power steering cap coming loose and thought to myself that could never happen to me.

well tonight I decided to check under the hood, oil etc. and found the ps cap almost completely off. and I mean off !
one more good bump and it would have been flying off.

I couldn't believe it. I am seriously anal about my car and check things constantly.
I just checked under the hood friday and everything was fine.

I put about 300 miles on the car this weekend, some of it (gasp) in the rain, so some how between friday and now my cap worked itself loose.

Thanks to whoever started that thread .

Yup, it does happen. I drove 350 miles home after the purchase and thought to check the cap when I got back :slap:. Yeah it fell off when I went to check it. :omg: I tightened it down with some channel locks and 4000 miles later its still nice and tight. I have the Hippo safety thingy but haven't put it on yet.

mach4444, I am holding off until 4 more people pay for the first batch that I sent out but send me a PM with your address and I'll ship you a vent tube kit that will stop this. I have a few dozen left and am closing them out for $15.

I tend to check all those pesky caps before each drive. I also have the vent tube another great safety part that is cheap and easy to install. Any new guys/gals reading this should consider one.

Will that kitt work on Gen. III ?

That's a great idea and I'd be interested in one as well :2tu:

I got the vent clamp several years ago when they first came out. Noticed last week that the clip style clamp don't seem to hold the same as they used too and would allow the cap to turn despite having the tube attached. I am going to get a screw clamp to replace the clip.

jcaspar, That is exactly why I did not use a spring clamp when I designed it. Yes my clamps are harder to remove but they don't loosen like a spring one would. Of course, someone started making the exact product with the exception of the rubber not being viton and the clamp being different. These are not mine.

I have a lot of extra clamps left over so send me your address and I will send you some. They look nice, not like a screw clamp.
