Anyone have any installation suggestions when putting on the side and rear chrome "Viper" emblems? I got a set for christmas and was wondering if there are any secret tips to putting them on. Any thing I should watch out for?

Thanks!

All i did was put masking tape below and at the begining and end before removing the old ones..
Then just place the new ones inline with the tape.....

Use a hair dryer to heat them up, which makes removal very easy. I have also cleaned the residue off so the surface is flat for the new ones.

Thanks for the tips...Seems easy enough. When I first purchased the emblems I thought all you had to do was to put the chrome on the top of the existing ones. I was not aware that the existing ones were "stickers" too and not molded into the body. Seems strange that dodge did that and did not mold them into the body itself.

If you are careful and use strong tape, you can use a heatgun to get them off in one piece and use them for garage art!!!!

I have a question about the removal process....after heating up the factory emblems with a hair dryer, how are people getting them off, just pulling them off with fingers, or doing the dental floss trick, or what?

When you install the new ones do not remove the paper on the FRONT of the letters but install it as one piece. I've read posts where someone asks about how to space the letters apart, etc., and they obviously tried to attach each letter individually.

You still should do the masking tape trick to line up the letters.

Haha i installed mine individually lol
I didn't even think the other side was actually sticky enough..is it? Hmm we shall see when i get my NEW CHROME BADGES with CUSTOM NITROUS INJECTED emblems from my R&J group BUY! WAHOOO!

I had to buy a completely new set since the first time i didn't clean all the old stuff off completely. trust me take your time and clean ALL the old crap off even though it takes a while sometimes! I had the / in RT/10 come off already thats why i bought the new complete set instead of just the hood set.

and if you're gonna be waxing the hood, do it BEFORE you install the emblems. then just remove a small amount more than the emblems is gonna cover. this way there is less cleaning up after ya wax

I used a product called Goo Gone. It is made for removing stickers and things. I put some on a paper towel and LIGHTLY (don't scratch the surface) rubbed the surface. Then I washed the Goo Gone off with soap and water before I applied the decals.

I am doing clear bra right now and prep for that install is http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/p-11319-4520-3m-adhesive-wax-remover-03618.aspx 3m spray adhesive/silicone and wax remover. The local murray's auto parts store had it for $6, safe for automotive. I cleaned the headlights with it before installing clear bra and used it to remove adhesive from my mistakes.

Works great and leaves absolutely no residue, doesn't dull the paint either.

I know this is an old thread but I am trying to install some but I don't see how to install in one piece? The paper it is on doesn't look like it is made to stick on in one piece?

I went through the same thing. Surround the old emblems with blue painters tape. Slowly pick the edges of the old emblems with a plastic scraper...preferably a tool used to install vinyl lettering. Once you get all the letters off, use the plastic scraper to gently remove the big pieces of residue off, then use Goo Gone to get the rest off. Then take a soapy rag and wipe the Goo Gone residue off. Get some transparent tape and put it over the top of the new emblems, then put a second piece over the top of that piece. You can then pull the backing off of the adhesive side of the emblems, they should be a little cushiony. Let it air dry and get tacky for a minute or so. You should now be able to install all the letters over the area you previously blue taped around. Line it up (you should be able to see through the transparent tape) and push in firmly. I say push firmly because your installing them on an uneven surface...at least on the back bumper anyway. Let it sit for an hour, then gently pull off the transparent tape.
