Check with California Chrome Wheel (Ph. 661-294-0170). I bought a used set of '97 wheels to have plated and run on my '96 GTS. I spoke to John yesterday at California Chrome and got a quote. The price on those wheels was $150 each (plus shipping). I found them on here back in June (thread "Re: white letters on a '96 GTS", posts #411875 & 411879?). John said they have done many Viper wheels for people from the VCA site (he knew that '96 wheels were cast and the '97 wheels were forged).

Hydrogen embrittlement has been an issue for people with chromed motorcycle forks. A cracked fork is just plain deadly. Most manufacturers who chrome front forks use thicker material to begin with and anneal the part afterwards to help compensate for the embrittlement. Didn't the earlier OEM Viper wheels have cracking issues when used on the track? Weren't these chromed?

Just got rims back from California Chrome wheel. All I can say is WOW!. they repaired curb rash. Now undetectable..From the other places I have spoke to, most give a 1 year warranty. Cal Chrome is 2yr. They are top notch. I have heard the price is now $175 for standard 97' five spoke including the center caps... It does take about 2-3 weeks but worth the wait. The boxes they return the wheels in could be used in combat if needed. These are great folks to work with.

Can you post pics of the 5 spokes in chrome? I have a 98 and would like to have this done, but every place in Atlanta is 3 to 4 times more expensive.
