Yeah I agree with most of what you say, except that dealers should have the right to charge what they want and the buying public has the right to walk away. It's called free market and the market will ultimately decide. I will never pay over sticker for a car, it's just not worth it to me.

BC;

The bigger question is going to be if Ralph really sticks to his guns or not and is willing to walk away from some of these shaddy dealers who have the money to just hand over a check no questions asked, but don't really have the passion and commitment long term beyond the sale? We have seen that scenerio all the time and unfortunately it does seem that money trumps all common sense.

Remember most of the "bad" dealers that don't really care about the car or solid trusting long term support will gladly throw out a $25K or even a $35K check. They spend much more than that on marketing, without even a blink. Then, they will pass it on to the people that buy the car via the famous hand written **** sticker. I believe the approval criteria should be for the dealership to present their writtten plan to Ralph along with a face to face presentation. Rather than telling them what you want and them saying okay, why not ask them how they plan to support it all and their approach. That will tell you 10 times more about these guys than follow the leader.

Sorry but still a major issue in some areas. Colorado is still MIA for the "right" dealer to step forth so we will see. Other than the big ones, other areas are just as bad. I am not holding my breath. If one does step forth in Colroado, it will most likely be one of the slimers that do I am sure and why you say? Because they have the money from royally screwing people for years. Even the Jeep dealer with good service that has the certified Viper Tech has SRT8s on the lot, Jeep, Chrysler, etc. All with varying levels of **** sticker on each and every one. Just depends on how much *********** you can handle.

Sorry, the initial starting post sounds like a good plan but we will see if it even remotely approaches that. I am just skeptical based upon decades of proof to the contrary. Sorry but Dealer Mark-Up stickers should be illegal and dealership should be fined. Used car, they should be able to sell for whatever they want high or low but a new vehicle should be maxed out at MRSP.

I believe in Free Enterprise BC, but on a new vehicle where you get locked into local and specific dealership support for warranty (within I believe it was 200 miles) when you buy a new vehicle, it should be locked down across the board for the "max price" they can charge like most any product out there you buy off the shelf. ie.) Dealer mark-ups on a new vehicle should be illegal. If they did that, there would be no reason to have to buy out of state, if they are the right dealer, and local, correct? Until they do that, they will always have a problem with people not supporting the local guy.

I have walked away from many vehicles over the years and only paid dealer **** sticker once, on a 1997 Mustang Cobra $5k. That same dealer when I tried to trade it and order a 99' S351R Saleen, never paid me even more than a hello when I brought it back up that I am trying to support them locally and I was hoping the fact I paid that mark-up that it should be reflected in my deal for the new $80K car. Got the too bad, so sad routine and have never been back since. I even had to buy my 2006 Coupe out of state because the local yahoos here in Denver and area would not even give me and my wife the time of day at the dealership, nor even unlock the car for us to sit in. Come on, that is the definition of arrogance. It's not like we showed up in a bucket of bolts, we showed up in my wife's Cayenne Turbo.

I will never do that again, pay over sticker for anything. There is no loyalty to this car business. Love the little dealership I bought the 2006 Coupe from in Ogallala, NB and was one of the best new car buying experience in my life out of all of them. Sadly that little dealership only has ever recevied two Vipers. Mine I bought from them and a 1996 GTS Coupe, both of which they brought in just for major milestone anniversaries of the town and parade, etc. Those type of dealerships (which is an awful lot like Tators) are what do it for me. I could care less if I walk into the dealership and they have a latte machine. I just want a fair deal, be treated with respect and have honest and trustworth service so when I get my car back, it is in better shape than when I brought it in. I don't see any of those values in what is being proposed. All I see is money involved. That will not cut it.

200 miles? When I bough my acr the check engine light came on as I was driving through New Mexico from Texas on my way to calif. it was just some crappy gas that caused an o2 sensor to malfunction. I needed a new one all covered under warranty.

You could get it serviced at any authorized set dealer, but at 100 dealerships or whatever could be very inconvenient. But there is no rule about warranty and distance that I know of.

I have the intention to buy a gen V GTS. Yes I would like one but no I don't need one. The circumstances where I will pay MSRP for any new vehicle are zero. So it may be a long wait or not at all. BTW my 01 GTS is just fine. GTS Bruce

If your definiton is price. Most people don't use that as sole definition.
600k+???? Where are you getting these numbers from? I can drive 3 miles up the road to Lamborghini of Miami and pick an aventador up for less than 500k out the door. I can't believe I'm even typing these
ridiculous numbers. Anyway back on the subject, I always thought that a super car was based on performance not what it cost or how rare it is. So to answer that question. I have been known to eat a couple of "super cars" with my viper! So can I call my baby a super car now?

Didn't you just bought a Lambo? Though I agree on your point up there.

I'll be uploading great pics of my GEN V once I get it.

Nice to hear someone say the definitive words "I'm buying one".
I'm out of Viper-land now and frankly don't care but hard not to notice all the cheerleaders suddenly hedging a bit on putting the cash down.
Hope it's not true so SRT continues to advance and hopefully make a ACR supercar.
Good luck with yours.

So your keeping your 97 GTS?

No, it is sold as well to a local guy and VCA member.
I have owned and loved it since 2007 but after my two ACR's it just got no attention from me, the ACR's were just TOO much fun to drive.
On to a better home and someone who will appreciate it as much as I did.
I can't recall every being as excited as I was when that BW was on it's way here, loved it from the moment I saw it.
Although I have to say waiting for the SuperG to arrive is right up there too. :)

Congrats on the sales and enjoy your new ride! I know the bitter sweet feeling....
The Lambo is probably a good place to park your cash until you see and decide on the new ACR

I agree that the dealers should be fined and eventually denied the ability to sell the car if they mark up the car beyond MSRP. That is how it works for the other reputable high end cars (MB, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, etc).
They will always be a few people with cash burning their pockets but I am sure you will be able to buy one at MSRP at your local dealer in early 2013.

I know I have seen MANY a Porsche and Lambo well over sticker because of availability so not sure that is a true statement... not that it is a good thing mind you.

Mark - just put me down for one of the first Gen V ACR's. Money is in the bank.

The only condition is that it has to look as bad ass as my 08 ACR or better (that condition is from my wife of 46 years).

Crybabies. It's called a free market. If a dealer wants to charge over MSRP that is his/her right. Just as it's our right to buy or not buy at the price asked. I'm sure a few initial cars will go to the people willing to pay the stupid money so they can have the car "right now". Later, prices will get back in line with MSRP and the rest will sell.

Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. Right?

I am not saying that unscrupulous dealers will not do it but their contract dictates otherwise. I know it is a free market but if the dealers want the locals to buy local and not out of state, they will need to align themselves and sell it at MSRP.

If it was a true free market then the consumer would have alternatives to buying from a dealer. Some time ago, one manufacturer tried to initiate a manufacrturer to consumer method of buying using the internet. The dealers rose in anger. This was competition they said! That's my point, there sould be competiotn to having to buy from a dealer. The dealer should have to prove that the dealer adds value to the transaction. True competition requires transpanency and alternatives for the comsumer.:headbang:

Ya that will work when you need service or warranty work. Once you pay for the car, they'll forget you even lived. See how "mod" friendly a place like that will be when there is an "issue". Me, I'll stick to the dealers that I know have a passion for the car, AND know how to fix them. With or without mods.

Lots of Gen II cheerleaders on the Gen V, most likely because it looks like a Gen II.

For many of us who purchased a Gen IV new and would consider a properly designed Gen V , we are wondering who SRT designed the Gen V for? Gen II owners (looks) ? Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo Owners? Gen IV owners looking for a marginal performance increase for a $50,000--$60,000 upgrade fee? Many of us current Gen IV owners wanted something more evil looking (Volado), 700 hp and $110k or less. While I am sure that the Gen V is better in every way than Gen IV (great job in that regard SRT), it just may not be what we were looking for... . Of course, we will just wait and see the specs and pricing for the Gen V ACR look. Finally, I sincerely hope that SRT sells every single Gen V unit they make so that SRT continues to get stronger and stronger and bring new products to market.

My local dealer isn't eager to sell me one. In fact, I don't think the SRT people are too eager either. My son and I were excited about the Gen V so we traveled from Tampa to NYC for the car show. We were there the first day. No one at the show could answer simple questions about the car. I have patiently waited and have called three times to SRT for info on how to order one. Their response was go to my local dealer. I went to the same dealer that blew me off in 2004 when I went in to buy a Viper. Their response was "We have to order those". I said "okay so lets order one". I suppose I don't 'look' like a serious buyer so they just blew me off. I went from Tampa to West Palm Beach to buy one a few months later. I am getting disenchanted by this whole process. Love the car-hate the system. Thinking of Audi R8 now or my all time favorite Ford GT. My buddy just bought one-Tungsten with only 150 miles on her!!! Beautiful. Sad on the GT forum they have a section for us Viper owners. Even though I think I could out perform his car its still awesome. Anyone know where I can be put on a Gen V list of SERIOUS buyers?

There are some really stupid points here, SRT designing the car for specific GEN owners? Or other brands owners! This is silly. The car is passionatley designed for both Viper lovers and to attract new breed. If you like the car then ok if you don't then shut up you don't have the rigt to critisize it consistently.

I can't believe you could be on this forum since Jan 2008 and not know the answer to your own question!!!Try Roanoke, Woodhouse, Tomball, and Baxter for starters. I am sure all will be happy to take your deposit and the price will be MSRP. There will be quite a few in line ahead of you, as well as any VCA member who has placed a deposit with a dealer that has an allocation. The factory is supposed to be accepting orders from the dealers in November. Good luck with your search!

Ken: My local dealer (pretty close to you) stated that it would sell it at MSRP. They are also committed to servicing the car. This was after about 1/2 discussion with the manager and a tour of the dealership. If you need me to connect you with them, send me a message.
