I am leasing to, but paid in advance for 2 year(only way to afford an 08). i was hoping for relief too when the lease is up. I will owe *** amount and hope to maybe get it cheaper than that. Any thoughts on this scenario.

I just bought my car off lease at the end of December. Because of the market, I negotiated a substantial reduction in the buyout, especially since they did not want the car. When you are nearing the end of your lease term, you will have an idea as to the current market on the vehicles. Get numbers from the auctions, such as Mannheim. Take that information and tell them the numbers you have seen, and either (1) ask them to make you an offer (remember, theirs is just an offer, and if the market is tight, low-ball them back, since they'll likely just meet you halfway), or if they won't (2) figure out a reasonable figure to make an offer (they will often want to hear yours first, since theirs is the lease buyout price), then reduce it a bit, since you know they will just want to negotiate up. They will be able to look up the Mannheim auction numbers and know you know what's up, and if the market is down, you will get a better deal this way than you will from any dealer (who has costs as a middle-man), plus you'll be buying out the car whose history you know and that you maintained.

That's very dangerous Hemi. Paying in advance gives you no financial benefit on a lease and leaves you with a substantial gap in the unlikely event the car is stolen (or totaled).

You'd be far better off if you segregated that cash (in some liquid interest bearing account) and liquidated it over those 2 years to make your monthly payments.

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding something in your post?
