Guys, I am still very new and still learn things about my "new" 05. There were couple of different noises since I got the car, but thanks to this forum got read of few of them, in particular annoying noise that were coming from the heater vent. However, another even more annoying noise is still exist and as usual dealer has no idea how to fix it. It is kind of clanking noise that is coming from somewhere behind driver seat or at least in that vicinity. It sounds like something is loose because the noise is persistent on a rough road and with Viper's suspension most roads are rough so this thing drives me nuts... I have a 05 Convertible. Any idea what could that noise be and how to eliminate it?
Thanks.

Hmmm... That could be the case too. I will ask dealer to look into it.

Might be the bolts to the hoops. Simply move seat forwward, pop off small cover, and tighten bolts.

on mine I had an issue with the clip that holds the convertible secure. The bolts were loose and when the top was up it would drive me nuts right behind my head. When the top was down there was tension on it and no sound. Its an easy fix....sorta. Tighten the bolts but you have to reach through the belt opening behind the driver seat.

I will try to drive it with an open top today to see if indeed it is the problem, ooo and you right this thing drives me absolutely nuts. I want to step out of the car in the middle of the road .

Well- I also have an 05 yellow vert. I too had the noise from behind on a rough road or going over a big bump/rr tracks. Do two things. Check ALL the rear suspension bolts after you jack the car up so the suspension can sag. If that does not fix it (I had lots of loose bolts) then you jave the "dredded shock bolt rattle". Find Dan Lesser on this site and buy a replacement set of shock bolts and install them. The original shock bolts are "shanked" that is the center of the bolt (where the shock rides) is a smaller diameter than the ends of the bolt. Dan's bolts fix this.:headbang:

Hope this helps!

all of those things could be it. also, the strap that holds the fuel tank broke on mine and the strap was clanking around for a few days before I figured out what it was.

Welcome SFYellow~! We had an '05 BLACK SRT vert...don't recall having problems with that type of noise, though. You could call our VIPER WIZARD: Chuck Tator 1-914-763-3136, see what he thinks? Also, private message your VIN# to the moderators and you'll be UPGRADED to VIPER OWNER (moderators: big-n-italian; kcobean; lee00blacksilvergts; citysnake; y2k5srt)...where are you located? CONGRATS on your '05...I know we LOVED ours! ~juli

I am located in San Francisco, but I have not seen any members on the road yet :-(? I guess I need to wait for the next Bay Area Viper event gathering.

Yes, maybe you can get together with your region's VCA...I'm not sure on the geography (not my strong point!), is that SoCal? You could contact someone in your region as to events coming up, and join the VCA~! ~juli

Guys, you won't believe what happened, per my initial post I brought my car to Redwood City Dodge for them to fix this noise. They had the car for few weeks, only to call me and tell me to pick up my car because dealership is completely closed and that they didn't fix anything on my car. So I am back to square zero and now I think I need to fix the clanking noise myself. I was able to verify that it is coming from the convertible hardware. When I put the top down I don't hear any noise. However, when the top is up and I shake the locking bracket of the top I don't fell it shaky nor I hear any clanking coming from it, but it is definitely from the top because when its down the noise is gone. Any ideas what could that be and how to fix it?

How bad of a clanking noise are we talking about? I had a pretty bad one that I could hear when going over bumps, and it turned out to be the sway bar end links coming loose.

Its really bad, but it is definitely coming from the inside the cabin.

Not that this helps much, but if it's any consolation, my '05 has the exact same noise. More to the passenger side though, as far as I am concerned it is the roof, because with the roof open or the hard-top on, I don't have this problem.

I need to track this one down too ASAP, just haven't had the time yet..
