Well Imo Dodge has closed the book so to speak on the gen 1 and gen 2 vipers. Heres some things that have crossed my mind. There were 13,765 Shelby mustangs produced and about 16,000 Vipers produced (14,349 up to 00,s dont really know how many 01s and 02s there are,so just added a thousand for each year) but anyway its pretty close to the same numbers, anyway 92 to 02s gts , rt/10 are rare and in the future will be highly sought after. Ive owned both the shelbys and now Vipers and the 92s to 02s Vipers are by far the most awesome automoble ever produced (maybe just a bit biased) So as history repeats itself where the car company makes radical changes hang on to that CLASSIC VIPER. Never again will it be. As the years pass there will be fewer and fewer. Just ask yourself, how often do you see a shelby mustang ? Just a thought

Amen!

I agree with everything you say. GenI/II will go down as one of the all-time American classics.

Oh, one other thing, as a nit, in case you care....production numbers for 2001 were 1751 (click here ), and speculation is that production of '02s will be around 1400, depending on when the CAAP switches over to SRT production (click here ). So, figure somewhere around 3000 '01s and '02s....

Doesn't change your premise, but I thought you might want to know the numbers.

Out of curiosity, what does a Shelby Mustang in good condition go for today (matching numbers, maybe not in mint condition but running and clean cosmetically)? And how much was MSRP in the '60s?

Venom Lover: Shelbys lets say a 68 was my favorite were around 4800.00 (MSRP)today the fast back ranges from 25,000. to 50,000. Convertibles were alot rarer and are from 35,000. to 75000. of coarse they all matter to what condition they are in and other years will vary. The 68 1/2 shelby convertible that had a 428 cobra jet was one of 318 today there are around 200.Thanks for the 01 and 02s numbers was off 1000 or so.guess uor names say it all.

Maybe not in the near-term, but 30 years from now, which Viper do you think will be considered more of a classic: our current GenI/II cars or the SRT?

Believe me, I'm not keeping my Viper as an investment. I'm just saying it doesn't look like the SRT has the stuff of a "classic".
BTW, in terms of performance, my '97 dyno'd at 427 rwhp stock. Based on officially published numbers so far, I'm thinking we'll see 440-450 rwhp for the SRT. Plus the car is 100 lbs lighter. You think it's really going to be that much faster? I have my doubts....

when considering the SRT..remember this...Gm didn't stay with the mid year vettes. they to moved on. This is what is happeingin with viper. Yea we might see drink holders, heated seats and other creature comforts...but that is evoloution...
ya gotta live with it...just be glad that the classic viper had a great run....10 years that is more than other cars...
