cleaning around the engine...

I m working on my engine and have the heads off. The place that painted my car did a horrible job on keeping the engine bay clean. The car was painted white and they had to redo the paint once because the clear had a reaction to the pearl, so they wet sanded the whole car and this is when the paint/water went through the engine compartment. I want to clean this up, what do you guys suggest I use to clean around the engine...I've searched but mostly it's been wd40, is there a better product out there?

Man that paint shop *****...maybe just sand a bit and use a can? duplicolor

If I was going to tackle a project like that I will go by the following steps.

1.Cover all electrical connections with plastic and tape.

2.Using a degreaser like this Radiator Specialty Company - Product Photos diluted with water.

3.Using a painters soft brush 1' and 2' clean all the areas.

4.Using inexpensive microfiber towels wipe any residue.

5. Repaint the entire engine bay area using this or similar RustOleum.com

6. After re assembly of the engine top touch all the plastic and rubber pieces using a product for that task.

I love Fantastic or formula 409 (the kitchen spray cleaners) they are just agressive enough to loosen the dirt but not hurt the paint.
