My rims look like crap! I bought them somebody must have used a chrome polish on them by mistake or did something wrong. I've got 7 pictures to try and show you what they look like.

What's the most cost effective way to fix this? I don't want new rims, at least I can't really afford them right now. Is there a way to make them look better without taking them off the car/tire?

I appreciate all the help guys, this is biggest flaw and I always get comments like, "You've got to clean those rims" :(

I repaired a set of wheels like this for a Corvette I had. I got the stripper from a local body shop I am friends with. Remove the tires, take your time and do it right. It can come out very nice. Nice project for over the winter. Don't try to bite off too much at one time. Do one wheel at a time, and go slowly. Once all the wheels are stripped and polished, clear them all at the same time. Be careful with spraying the clear, it tends to act differently than pigmented paint. You cant see how much you are applying and the runs and sags happen, then its time to start all over. Did I mention take your time, you can do it.:2tu:

It looks to me like someone used a very harsh cleaner on those wheels. Most of the wheel cleaners you buy at the local auto parts stores are way too strong and can do some damage to the clearcoat. The above posts are correct, strip the clearcoat off and get them recoated. Have somebody do it that knows what they are doing.

Take them too a good body shop first and see if they can buff them out.

Re-clear coating is a nightmare and so is having no clear coat on them at all.

In my opinion I wouldn;t even waist my time or money into those wheels. Find yourself a set of 18" Gen II wheels. I sold mine about 6 months ago for 1K, you can find REALLY good deals on them.
