Clips on Clutch Master Clylinder?

There are flat spring clips holding the clutch pedal to the
piston rod of the clutch master cylinder. Is there a trick to
popping these off with one hand? I think you are 'supposed'
to press one side down and pry the other side off (like a
safety pin) but there is no room to fit two tools (not to
mention hands) between the rod and side of the car. I do
not have spares so I want to avoid breaking these if at all
possible. Thanks.

I used a small flat bladed screw-driver to pry/lift the top hook up and at the same time push it back, then it will align with the enlarged slot and come off.
