For several months, when pressing in my clutch, you could feel a "click" about 75% of the way down. I had a couple Viper guys look at it and they agreed it was probably a bushing going bad. Everything else was ok, so I ignored it. As of last week, now when I push the clutch in, (sometimes) it stops mid-way down--maybe 25% of the time or less. It stops firm enough to make me think I'm at the floorboard. But, when I actually shift into the next gear (with foot still on clutch), the clutch releases and goes down the rest of the way to the floor. I looked at the clutch pedal assembly and saw 2 washers. 1 was a plastic washer and it fell apart when I touched it. The other one is a metal washer that is too big for the clutch pedal assembly and fell off in my hand. From what I can tell, these washers only keep the pedal from moving right to left. My pedal has always had some left-right play in it, so I don't think these have anything to do with the "click" feel or the new problem of the clutch stopping 1/2 way from the floorboard? Clutch fluid was bled several months ago and fluid level is fine. Airpocket? Master cylinder? Chicken wing bone wedged in somewhere? Help?

Hopefully you unblock my posts to read this, as it may be helpful. You could be looking at a problem with the master cylinder or slave. When was the last time the clutch was changed if ever???? This is a farely rare problem since Ive only heard of it once before. The guy that had this problem changed everything and all was better. He did it himself so the cost was kept down.

Perhaps someone will come along with a little more specific information. If you find yourself in need of a master cyliner, I have a new one that is unused that I will provide to you for a small fee. Viper tax free ofcourse.

I would hate for the McViper to be down during such a lovely part of the year.

Thanks for the info and offer. I took you off ignore a few days ago, I figure I'll be tougher skinned. I know the clutch has been changed at least once in the car, but it was around 20k i think. Car now has 85k on it, so unless it's been changed out since then, its got a lot of miles on it

I know from your reputation you don't race or drive yours as hard as some of the rest of us, but I'm almost positive that its time for a change. The throw out bearing, pilot bearing, or the pressure plate itself may finally be giving up. Best of luck on the repair, Ive dont several myself so its not all that hard.

BTW I just poke at you and a few others because no one else does. Nothing personal, I actually like you and am fond of your "style" of posting as with everyone else.

From the description it definitely sounds like the Clutch Pedal Bushing Chad. I think you'll find that the plastic washer was one end of the bushing.

When you depress the clutch to where it stops early, if you push the pedal slightly to the right does it drop more easily? I found this was the case when mine went.

It's a pretty easy fix, just a bit fiddly, and awkward to get to.

I have the same problem, when I talked to the Wizard he feels it's probably the bushing as well, he sent me one, but I didn't get around to changing it yet, in the meanwhile, just press the clutch to the right on the way down and it shouldn't get hung up.

Hopefully the bushing will fix it.

You wrote that shifting would cause the clutch pedal to go down and work properly. That sounds like a transmission problem, ... like the sleeve over the input shaft being cracked/broken. I see that there's a clutch position switch/sensor at the master cylinder that could also cause the problem you're describing, athough that wouldn't change because you're shifting.

Well I guess we've got this one cleared up now that "The Dave" has spoken. :rolaugh::lmao::lmao:

:usa:

Well, I'm afraid it was "The Rob" who was right. I talked to Chuck this morning and he agrees that its most likely a slave cylinder problem. So, instead of a $2 bushing, its a slave cylinder and while we're in there may as well replace the clutch kit, etc. Dohhhhh!

Fixed that for ya Dave. :D

Error 404: Funny not found :D

Hopefully the bushing will fix it.

Chuck seems to think its the rod getting caught on a piece of the aluminum slave cylinder when I press down on the clutch. So, looks like its time to buy a slave cylinder and one of the clutch kits off Ebay, and replace everything since as far as I know, the clutch is over 60k miles old.

I hate that I was right on this one. Good thing is, beside the pleasure, you can get a lot done down there. :lmao:

Poly mounts, clutch, flywheel, short shifter....

You can see right up the girlies skirts too :2tu:
