Clutch safety starter switch

Where is the clutch safety switch located? I think mine is going bad. When I push the clutch to the floor the starter will not turn. If I lift the clutch up 1/2 inch the starter will crank. I can play with where the clutch pedal is to get the car started. I have to fix this soon.

Not sure, but it should be located right near the clutch pedal.

It's part of the clutch hydraulic cylinder. Don't think it's a separate replaceable part, would need the entire cylinder.

The switch comes as part of the complete assembly. The assembly isn't hard to replace at all, and if you play with the contacts (aka: wiggle it a bit) that might be enough to fix it.

to find it, get on your back and stick your head under the steering wheel. look at the clutch (you'll need a light of some sort). you will see a green plastic "box" looking-thing on the plunger behind the clutch. it has 2 wires. that is the switch.

the other "hack" is to dis-able the switch. but then if you turn the key w/ the car in gear and clutch engaged you'll go forward.

Do you have alot of play in your clutch pedal. Might just be the plastic bushings worn out. Cost about $5.00 for the two. Mine has worn out twice in seven years. Or you can just jump the switch where it plugs in to the harness.

Is there an easy way to run the switch to ground? I'd like to do that with my '99 to save the thrust bearing from cold starts. Just engage the brain before starting car to prevent accidents FWIW- most manual trannies did not use a neutral safety switch prior to 1970

yes. run a wire from the switch to a ground. and then you are done.
