Clutch?

My 2001 GTS is a driver and will be street use only with stock power. What clutch should I go with? Better options than stock?

The stock clutch is bullitt proof. My old 99 GTS was a driver and track car with 700 hp and the oem clutch never faltered. With stock power you will be fine for a long time.

Can I just turn and reuse my flywheel no problem?

Why? The kit is cheap enough from nearly everywhere. $300 or less. Just shop around.

The OEM flywheel is NOT resurfacable per Dodge. But if it has been street-driven and not abused, you could be OK.

But a lightweight flywheel from $369+ is faster acceleration and better braking and NO additional labor when you are doing the clutch....too good to pass up?

The "better clutch" options may be rated at 900-1100 lbs torque, even weight 8 lbs less, and have better pedal action, but still cost more.....money maybe not well-spent on a street car

I hardly ever assimilate "well-spent" and "Viper" when it comes to modding...

So what are these clutches that save 8 pounds?

I-Force Clutch kits are an excellent upgrade if you do decide to go aftermarket. Double the cost of stock kits but worth it.

Stock clutch is great. Had mine for 46K miles without problems and even then still had almost 5K miles left on it.

I would replace it with a stock one. You can't beat them for the money and they last a long time.

You didn't happen to weigh it before installing did you? This discussion came up recently and there wasn't a resolution.

Numbers are from memory.
43lbs Stock flywheel
33lbs DCPerformance chromoly flywheel (website says 10lbs less than stock)
20lbs JonB chromoly flywheel
18lbs Fidenza aluminum flywheel

Can we get pics of the JonB and Cragin chromolys so we can compare? Or is somebody's facts off by a few pounds?

stick with the luk (oem) clutch, and clean up the flywheel.

I'm pretty sure the one JonB sells is the Cragin one (at least the one I just purchased from jon came from DCP)

Sorry Chuck, I didnt even think to put it on a bathroom scale before installing. From memory it wasnt exceptionally light, but it was lighter than stock by a few pounds. Enough to notice just by picking it up.

Save your money, the stock clutch is an excellent part. If you're considering dragracing or just spirited street driving, stick with the stock flywheel. If your interested in roadracing, a lighter flywheel may be of benefit.
