What is a cold air intake? Are they effective on SRT 10's? Or are they in the same cateragory as turbonators (meaning garbage).

black mamba --

I think you and I are operating on similar brainwaves (unfortunately for you :)). As I mentioned when I hijacked your other thread, I plan on ordering the Mopar "low restriction, cold air intake" that they announced at the Detroit Auto Show for my incoming 2008 Viper.

My question is: (1) how much horsepower gain do CAIs typically achieve and (2) how much do CAIs typically cost? My total uneducated guess would be 5-10 hp gain and cost in the $600 range installed?

Thanks for any input you or anyone else can provide.

Maybe you'll pick up a few ponies but if want one of the better returns on your mod investment look elsewhere.
A set of gears won't leave you guessing if you've picked up performance. 3.55's come highly recommended.

The K&N setup will run you about $250...chump change and it looks a bit better so why not? It surely won't hurt anything.

K&N quotes 14 rear wheel hp, not bad, I just ordered one today, $270. I've read that several folks find it makes for a little better response.

Traditional cold air kits usually route the air cleaner to the fender well or outside the engine compartment, on the viper it's in its stock location, but better filers and the tubing is claimed to be smoother, etc.

I am not sure about hp gain. I have the S&B hi flow filters. For the cold air intake on Mopar, how was it different from stock?

black mamba -- I have no idea; there is currently no information about the specs or price of the Mopar CAI shown at Detroit NAIAS.
