Guys: I didn't intend to start a battle here but I must admit it was entertaining. ;)

Some have said that $46K for the 2001 ACR with 14,000 miles was a high price. the car is completely stock and in mint/showroom condition. In fact it is on the showroom floor next to Ferrari's and Maseratti's.

What should a fair price be on the car?????

I admit the BW '96 is a very good deal though but I do like the ACR. I just don't want to over pay for it.

If you can get the ACR for closer to $40K, go for it, otherwise, I would go for the B/W.

P.S.

Don't wait too long before making your decision. If they put that 96 B/W out on the street for that number, it probably won't last long. On second thought, you should pay $46K for the ACR as that is a great deal and just pass the B/W my way. No one likes those B/W's anyway. :2tu:

I'm at 46,500. Closer to $40K meaning $43k, $44K???

Am I way overpaying at $46,500.00?

Re: Confused Newbie deciding between 2001 GTS ACR and 1996 GTS ...Man this is tough!!

A friend of mine just sold his 97 blue and white with i think about 45 k on it for low 30's. It took him some time to sell it but it needed nothing at all as he had all the issues fixed on it. The blue/white is a fair price i wouldnt say it is a "steal"...blu/whts are iconic if thats what you want, but it is 5 years older at the same time. Really just depends what you want. I have friends with the blue and white and it looks great. My 2000 creampuff has run reliable for 8 years and I run it pretty hard.
Id say if the ACR sells for low 40's id go with newer/abs/slightly better interior/ cool seat belts!!!/ decent rims....unless you plan on blower/NOS.
just my useless opinion.

Its a buyers market, Personally I think the $46,500 is a fair dealer price, don't get me wrong, the dealer has overheads to pay, advertising etc. Why not make an offer in the low $40 region, leave your number and see what happens!
I know its hard when you like the car, but if you can sweat it out a bit, you could end up with a great deal? It also depends on how you are intending to pay? As long as your not trading anything in or paying on finance you should get a grat deal. Cash is King ;)

I can't get the dealer below $46,500.00. He will throw stripes in.

You can have vinyl stripes done for $300 most places. Hold at $44k and walk away and let him chew. The car will be there a while at $46.5k. On the other hand if you feel good about everything it's worth what you or someone else will pay.

Make the offer, Walk away and meanwhile keep looking at other cars. The right car will show up at some point, took me nearly a year to find mine ;)

$46,500 is not WAY overpaying. Most here will tell you that it's probably worth a little less, but how many are out there for sale? It makes a difference. If I didn't have mine and was currently looking, I would say somewhere in the $42-$44K range is reasonable. Good luck!

Buy the B/W. It is no more close to smurf blue than red is to pink even though red ones look pink in pics:rolaugh:

LOL... either you have too much time on your hands by checking or you love watching the Smurfs. The Red is the engine and the white (stripes) is the beard...

I don't think Smurfs come to mind with either Blue or Red Vipers. At least not in my mind.

I will be looking at the '96 B&W tomorrow. If it is in the shape it should be in with only 8000 miles and I can buy it for $35K or maybe even $34K :omg: I think I have to buy it. From the pics it looks like it has a Magnaflow exhaust.

In all seriousness (I know we have gotten off track with some humor), Slitherv10 put it best with the Girlfriend analogy. There are allot of different cars out there and you can’t go wrong with ANY Viper you purchase but like Girlfriends certain cars are more attractive to some than others.

When I purchased mine, I was hot and heavy for a 96 GTS only because that’s what was attractive to me. I also paid more for mine than what you are looking at so I think its a very good price for that car.

I must admit though when I saw Daves Red / White, it looks pretty damn nice and I could see myself owning a car like that so I know why you were interested in the red / newer one…

No matter which car / color you buy, it’s a Viper and it will be AWESOME!!! Good luck and I hope you land the one YOU want soon!!!

Ps, if you do buy the 96, please send picks so I can admire your new girlfriend…

surprise, surprise. By now I was sure a third one would have entered the mix. Good luck with whatever you decide. Spring is around the corner!

I am just knowledgeable....because of my childhood, and the kids i have. a true blue/white viper is just a regular smurf...which is blue with white clothing. Papa smurf is blue with read, and wise old grandpa smurf is yellow with the white beard ;) I call being Smurfette!!!

Did you get it yet? I'd pocket the coin and get the blue one. Course I already have the red one. That extra $10K in your pocket will feel niiiice:D

I agree here.........buy the one you like the most between the 2.........For me I would jump on the 96 GTS......but the ACR is priced good to me also......just how much you wanna spend....either one u wont go wrong......buy the 96 and keep the change to modify it with a ROE S/C.......

I think all of them look pretty good in all colors. I know a lot would disagree but I definitely prefer them WITH OUT stripes. I have a solid silver gts

Re: Confused Newbie deciding between 2001 GTS ACR and 1996 GTS ...Man this is tough!!

I prefer no stripes as well. To me, it creates an illusion of being wider and it is already as wide car. It's just a preference.

Only about 800ish ACRS were build for the Gen II I believe. My solid red was 1 of 35 built. Rare? Yes. Does it really matter in the scheme of things? No.

I paid 37K for my 2000 ACR with 14,800 miles in 2009. People thought it was bottom of the pricing slump back then and it was a "steal." Nope. The market did get lower. And..it's still low. However I have had to pay a LOT of money to get the car moving. Fortunately, a forum member is "paying it forward' Jmch and going to help fix my current problem. (Thanks in advance). With that, what you pay may end up being relative. Tires, transmissions, and little things add up very quickly to the price of the purchase. So no car ends up being "Cheap." You may get the 35k car and dump 10K into fixing things to get it right. You may have a car that needs very little.

These are not investments by any means if you plan on driving them. Sure you could get a stock, clear title viper and put the minimum insurance on it and have it sit for 20 years. However you could also throw 35k into investments and let those sit for 20 years and you will likely be ahead in the investments. But there is no better investment than the investment of smiling ear to ear driving your dream car. There is no better investment than having that grin as you stare at one of the most aesthetic vehicles to ever be designed and executed to production. We are a rare breed and have the fortune of having a very low production vehicle. Many people think it's silly for me to have this car (especially the troubles I have had with it). I still think it was worth it. I love these cars.

Honestly and most will disagree but the market is st.l very soft. There's a crap ton of people asking a lot but they can still be had at very reasonable prices. More so as gas hits 4-5 a gallon again.
