I picked up the car today from. Cora, they were using my car to test their exhaust system. It was not a simple process, they had to try several permutations of the muffler. Everything about their process is high tech and computerized. The sound altering portion of the scheme is also developed by computer.

For some reason the exhaust they developed on a GTS mule earlier in the year did not work on my car. They thought the difference (GTS vs SRT) in weight and sound insulation changed the resonant point. They tried a second system and it did not do what they anticipated. My car has the third system and I believe it will be the system they go to market with.

I put about 50 miles on the car after I picked it up, sound properties can be subjective, however, here are my views on the system:

1. They could not move or cancel the resonance that starts at approx 2000 rpm. I think it may be a little quieter at cruise till it hits 2000 rpm. At 1900 rpm on cruise control the drone is gone, but, as soon as you exceed that point it is close to the original sound level. However, the tinny sound is gone and it has a deeper sound, more like a V8.

2. The biggest difference is the sound quality and magnitude during acceleration and WOT. Again, the UPS truck sound is gone and the result is more like a strong V8. You definitely know it is not a stock exhaust. It is probably the best of both worlds, quiet at low rpms and sounds more like a race car at WOT.

My wife's comment was , "the restriction is gone".

The problem is it is hard to get the total affect when you record drom a single point due to the side pipes, secondly the sound is way different when you load it up. I am going to the drag strip on Wednesday, I will set up the GOPRO to the rear of the exhaust outlet.

Definitely need to hear it

Hey Jack,

Did you happen to ask Corsa if they are going to build a titanium version of this exhaust? They used to build some titanium systems, but don't know if they still do. Would be neat to help get the snake even lighter!!

Honestly the weight saving because the exhaust is so short would be minimal but still could be done. We build some stuff and talked about TI. I just got done with our new F10 m5 titanium system.

I think stainless with ceramic coating will be the way to go. There is already heat treatment in the cars side skirts for the exhaust but obviously its not perfect (door sills heat thread).

UPS truck = Gen 1-3. I never thought the Gen 4 or 5 sounded bad, stock. If so, you just have some badass UPS trucks in your area ;)

Thanks for the info Jack, glad they could use you as a test bed and get this to market ASAP. I talked with them yesterday and ordered 3 systems for us and a special project we are working on so I'll be interested to hear the video you take also. Hope you are enjoying the new Snake and thanks for keeping the info coming ;-)

Tone might not be correct word, I believe they said cabin resonance was greater in the SRT with the GTS
Muffler.

The muffler fills almost the full length of thr sill, I was surprised

I'm surprised there is a difference between the SRT and GTS for exhaust tone.

I've got to admit, I'm a big fan of the deeper V8 sound. Maybe it's because I grew up with V8 muscle cars with lumpy cams, but that's what floats my boat. I'm about to install a cam and longtubes on my Camaro, with Corsa catback. I'm guessing a Viper Corsa system is also in my future.

stock is ok but I really think it could and should sound a lot throttier, louder and meaner. cant wait to hear the sound on the corsa

historically on prior gens, was the corsa better sounding than the mopar?

V-8 type sound is only achieveable with rear exit exhaust. Bring those pipes together out back, let the sound waves harmonize like they are suppose to and bask in the beauty. I never thought this was possible in a Viper V-10, like the Gen III, I had even with Bellangers but my Gen II with cat-back sounds pretty damn good and much more V8 type car than I have ever heard from a Viper. Just IMHO

I am with you, there are trade offs to side exhaust, especially with the V10. I think a catless Balenger with rear exhaust comes close to the V8. Probably that is due to the H-pipe.

The Corsa on my G5 has a deeper sound than the stock system. It is still a V10, but, it as though it went from good sounding mid-range soprano to a jr baritone.

I had the Titanium exhaust they made for the Vettes back in 2002. It was 35 lbs lighter than stock. I've been bugging Corsa about building a system for the Viper for the past 8 yrs. seems they are not interested. They claim the war effort has taken all the Titanium availabillity away. I'm guessing the fact that that they were hand welded in a submerged atmosphere (high labor costs) along with really poor sales ended the program. The Corsa exhaust tends to be much heavier than stock sysytems, due to size and chamber type, the Gen V model may be different, but only a scale will tell.

I think the V8 is the best sounding engine, short of a V12, but I wouldn't want my viper to sound like a V8. I think the V10 sound is distinct and gives you something different since there are already tons of V8 cars out there. I like the sound of the V10 in my viper and I thought I wouldn't.

The sound you get with any piston engine depends more on the crankshaft design and firing order than it does the type of exhaust or exit points. If you think of the pistons as strings on a guitar, you can imagine that strumming certain combinations of strings will sound better...chords, if you will. Let's say you snip 2 of the 6 strings on a guitar...it is going to sound a lot different. Same thing with engines...you can take a high-revving V8 from a honda F1 car and it will not sound like a chevy or ford V8 because it has a different crank, so the pistons are in different positions with each rev compared to the common V8, and that's what makes it sound different. The differences exist due to the V angle and the considerations made for balancing the engine.

The viper is a conventional 45 degree block, however, it does have an asymmetrical firing sequence. Exhaust exit is significant especially when it is rear exit combined with X or H pipes. My G2 with H pipe/rear exhausts sounds nothing like a side pipe car - not close. Go to Utube - "viper at dragstrip" before you dismiss what exit means to sound output. That video is with the closed back GoPro, with the open back it would be even better.

PeerBlock, I think I am pretty familiar with how a motor works and the difference on the physical configurations as opposed to exhaust note. Reality is there are many things to effect it beyond what you stated including materials. SS headers versus Aluminized is a great example.

While firing order, etc. play a big role, my point was without changing anything on the car, just bringing to exhaust pipes together out back, it totally changes the experience and sounds more like it should.

To use your example, just take a six string guitar and add another one, then pull 3 strings from each and make them each pay in opposite corners of the room, while you sit in the middle. Compare that to both sitting in front of you playing at the same length from your seat. Totally different experience, and I will give you that equipment (motor innards (components) and conductor (PCM)) will affect a lot, but to downplay sound position and resonance and go against 3,000 years of sound knowledge, amphitheaters, etc. I guess I don't get it! You know we are not all idiots and some of us have some schooling and experienced life. Why you feel you need to talk down to everyone like we don't have a clue? I think you need to step back and reflect on yourself. Maybe it is the position you are speaking from but you are not coming across as a team player and sounding about as enjoyable as a 5 cylinder exhaust out one side.

I am with you, within this forum I have never seen such a ****. This was a good thread, this is not the only thread he has snuffed. I also doubt Mr Peer Block has started a meaningful technical thread, wait, I think he did start one on floor mats.
Jack, thanks for the thread - I may even look into the exhaust myself.

I am surprised corsa couldn't get rid of the drone. On my shelby the stock exhaust had a bit of resonance on the highway in 6th and the corsa made it virtually silent.
