CORSA LETHAL 500 I\'M SMILING BIG NOW

Just got my car back yesterday in time to put about 40 miles on it. I scared a real hot Vette, and a porsche. I love the sound. I got the ceramic coated headers from Belanger, and the Apex HF cats, and the Corsa 3" catback. I figured if you are goin in , go all the way. Apex did the install in 2-1/2 days. They dynoed my car before with just the smooth tubes and K&N's at 404 rwhp. Not bad for a 2001 RT/10 "Creampuff". That is around 475 hp at the flywheel. They will not dyno my car until next friday, because they want my computer to get adjusted to the new system, so it will show max horsepower. I'm hoping for 430+ rwhp which would equate to about 506+ flywheel hp. I am so excited, but now it is raining for 3 days here in Sunnyvale, California. :-(
I suggest all of you guys do what I did, if your wife might not approve of such an expensive add on. I took her to "Viperdays", and she heard all of the other fancy cars flying by, and then there was mine. "Stealthy" for sure. You could hardly tell I was goin' by. So she asked me what it would take to sound nicer.."YES" I could not believe my ears. That is approval in my book....anyway, I will let you guys know what the final dyno numbers are next week. Until then, I have to put another 60 miles on my car. It is amazing how it adds a 4th dimension to the pleasure of driving my Viper. Now people actually start looking for the car before you are there. It seems as though the sound goes right to your foot. You just want to keep driving and driving ..anywhere....Dennis Kimball

Dennis:

I have to give you credit for driving your snake in Silicon Valley. My commute takes me to/from San Jose and I've only driven the Viper to work twice in the past year. South Bay traffic has to be among the nation's worst!

Let us know what the results are after your visit to Apex.

Glad to hear you are sooo happy...WHo makes the Apex Cats?

Also, I believe you are using 15% drive train loss, and the common thinking seems to be that the Viper does not lose that much in the drive train...

However, the RWHP is what matters, thats where the rubber
meets the perverbial road...

430 RWHP sounds just about right. My '01 RT picked up 23 RWHP when I went from K&Ns & tubes to headers+cats+exhaust. The "creampuff" midrange improvement is more dramatic, with RWTQ rising 37 ft-lbs.

Has anybody noticed that when you are done with all your exhaust mods, that it does not sound like you thought it would sound? Don't get me wrong, it sounds great, it's just that growing up with the sound of Mustangs, Vettes, and Cobras, it sounds different than my idea of a great sound. Mustangs, Vettes, and Cobras have that low throatie rumble, and Ferrari has that high pitch whine. I guess we are somewhere in between the two sounds. People still turn their heads and look, but it just sounds different to me. I have been to a couple of Viper Days and test and tune days, and I have heard the big boys etc., and nobody has that low rumble when they roar buy??? Is it the size of our pistons, or just the fact that there are 8 vs. 10 ??? Thanks Dennis Kimball

Dennis-
Great to see you are pleased with the sound and performance of the LETHAL 500 package on your 2001 RT/10.

Looks like we are in for some good weather over the next few days. Look forward to strapping your car down to the dyno to compare the before and after results. I know you will be happy.

See you soon.
Regards,
Wayne (LTHL VPR)

If there is 15% loss in the drivetrain that would mean A loss of 75hp for a 500hp engine. That loss must all turn up as heat someplace. What is it that gets so hot? If you do the conversion to watts that's quite a bit of heat. Where is it?

Joel,
I can't chew gum and drive my Viper at the same time. I think Wayne and Bill over at Apex will have to answer that one. I own a ultra-precision machine shop. I do know that the Viper is the hottest car I have ever driven. No pun intended....
