Corsa Track Exhaust

Just bought a Corsa track exhaust system from JonB at PartsRack. Plan on installing it next week. Could not find anything in the archives on tips for the do it youself installer. Anyone got any helpful tips? My first mod on my 06.

It isnt really that hard. I guess a few tips would be,

First, if you havent taken on and off sidesills before, be careful, and up the front of side sills, there are 2 10mm nuts, you will have to slide your hand up inbetween the black vents in side sill, I use a open ended 10mm wrench.

Second problem people run into is they center ehaust tips in between side sill opening. But the exhaust grows a little bit when hot and so it moves back and burns back part of side sill. If you got the newest Corsa, the tip is changed a bit, its more round so it may not be as much of a problem. But ususally put the exhaust tip closer to front of opening,then when it grows,it wont touch the side sill.

Also, i like to get set up and clamped, put side sill back on and off each time to check but dont screw down. Once it is about where you think is right, then put side sill on nd tighten screws, recheck. If its fine, then I pull sill back off and spot weld a few sspots around clamp, that way it wont loosen up.

You can also use washers to space out the bracket that holds rear of exhaust by tip. This way you can get tips nice and flush with sidesill. Unfortunatley they take a little tweaking if your anal and want it to look perfect. Just take your time.
And have a sawzall on hand, its easy to just cut the stock exhaust crossover in to a couple pieces and then it comes right out.

I did mine in jack stands no real problems, my rear section cross over was pretty stubborn to get apart, but a rubber mallet and persistence was about it, MikeR hit about everything. One tip, I tied a piece of fishing line to my 10mm wrench while getting to the two tricky bolts in the side sill front so when I dropped it, which I did a few times, it wouldn't fall into the abyss of the body work.

When taking off the side sill that front top nut is really not that hard if you just use a screw driver (covered with tape) and wedge it at the small opening that you'll see between the side sill and the inner plastic fender. Gently move it back and away and you'll see the bolt with the nut on it. I use a 10mm deep well socket on a 12" extension with my 1/4" drive, and it comes off as easy as pie, and the nut stays in the socket. Give it a shot!

Now thats smart. You dont know how many times I dropped the stupid wrench in there my first few times changing cats, exhaust and stuff. Id always be right at end, final tightening, drop and then alot of cursing. I was half tempted to cut a hole in liner like others have so you can get a socket in there.

No problem, glad I could help. But actually "Ab" is the man... He is the one who did a nice write up with pics. For future use, I found it by searchng his user name and then threads started by him. He has done alot of nice writeups. If and when you get ready to lower car, he has a good writeup of changing out coilovers.

I know most place a tack weld between the Corsa and existing connecting exhaust pipe. After I adjusted for fit, I let the car run for 15 minutes and then tightened the clamp bolts 5lbs above torque and have never had the issue of them moving. After our VCA dyno day I rechecked and they held their position.... I find cutting a hole on the fender well below the front sill bolt to be the best option for quick removal in the future.....

The side sills are slotted, you do not have to remove the nuts, just loosen them a few turns to allow the side sill to slide off.

On my '06 coupe the bottom of the front stud actually contacts the inner fender liner so you can't remove the nut and you can't get a box end or socket on it. I use an open end wrench tied to my wrist with a piece of string. With some patience it's not bad.

The alternative is removing the inner fender liners, then getting the nuts is beyond easy, but those fender liners are a real PITA and an extra step.

Been there and done this several times, getting ready to do it again to install a set of M&M headers.

Thanks j-rho Great help, my Corsa system SHOULD showup tomorrow.
My plans are to do a baseline dyno Thursday and install the system this weekend. I will do another dyno next week and see what HP gain I made. I am hoping for a gain of 15HP.

That will be good. Its always cool to see the gains you make as you continue to mod your car. You may already know this, but try to go to same dyno place everytime. That way you are consistent. Becasue sometimes dyno's vary and you wont have accurate results.

Just finished taking my sills off. Kenneth Krieger's method is the way to go. Tried going in through the door side to remove the two 10mm nuts, after a hour and a lot of cussing I tried Kenneth's way.
(String tied to wrench another GREAT tip) Kenneth's method took about 10 minutes. THANKS KENNETH

I did this about two months ago. Weight savings was 14 lbs (57 lbs for the stock mufflers, crossover and tails pieces vs. 43 lbs for the Corsa).
