hopefully its true

Well the guys starts off saying the SRT-10 DESTROYED the Z06 then he comes back and says "oh I made a mistake the Viper won some areas and the Vette beat the vip[er in some areas, my mistake..."

My question is IF the Viper did win is it because DC paid off the Magazine?? I question this because that's what some here claimed GM did when 2 Mags ran better times w/ the Z06 than the SRT-10 did. hmmm....

Can't wait to see the results.

Just might be....if so, it would confirm what a lot of us have thought, ie. raw performance numbers close enough for the driver to be the difference. In other words, no Viper killer! Bone stock to bone stock, should make for some interesting competition at the track.Of course, us snake drivers have considerably more power available to us with a few mods(Paxton, anyone?) than the Vette boys are gonna have with their engine being pretty close to maxed out as is.I know none of us would ever engage in any illegal activities like street racing(lol)but hypothectically speaking, the Z06 crowd may be in for a rude awakening from their new-found dreams of superiority the first time they challenge a Viper, especially one that ain't exactly stock. The more things change the more they remain the same.BTW,does anyone else think DC may have added an unannounced tweak or two to the coupe? Could be...maybe wishful thinking...we'll know soon.Just my .02.

Of course not, but that same statement was said you being one of them how biased some mags are towards to Vette. Some even implied that's why the Vette ran 11.5 and 11.7 was because the mag was biased and because GM donated more $$$ as a sponser.

So my question was Since two mags ran faster times in the Z06 than the Viper and it was stated it was rigged, does the same now apply if the Viper comes out on top?? Double standard perhaps????

You missed the comments entirely. It was with pre-production cars provided by GM for the mags (remember the testing was probably 2-3 months ago). Now were those cars just average or tweaked to be the best possible. I would definitely not call that "getting paid off" but offering a ringer. Nothing new for vette or most other cars. If you were providing a car for magazine review would you not get the most out of it?

That said I really wait for cars offered to the public for comparison. Then we know it will be apples to apples. During this pre-production period it is quite questionable (have you noted the GT performance lately has not been living up to its pre-production stats?).

I personally can't wait for the real numbers to come out. I think so many Z06 owners are going to be OWNED by GM.. ;)

Only time will tell, though I don't think either car will OWN the other rather being pretty close performers.

I could give a crap which car is faster - the SRT 10 is a life style - it makes the Corvette look like a family car - and just like the Chevy Malibu in about 12 months you will see hundreds of them every Saturday.

So an automotive lifestyle is limited to Vipers only?? LOL Got a stick up your ***?? I sure some Vette owners will disagree including this one. Just like owning bikes, classics cars is a lifestyle which is where I fit in. If the C6 will be on every corner then so are the SRT10's and coupes since GM stated Z06 production numbers will be reduced 50% of C5 numbers which was 5,000/yr. DC didn't bump the power but you still have exclusivity.... or do you w/ the same production numbers?

It's sad that I originally came here to do research on my next purchase only to find "Holier than thou" Viper owners. Hell the Ferrari guys aren't as stuck up as some here are you are driving DODGES (yes I own one as well). LOL

So if being narrow minded and stuck up is the "Viper lifestyle" then knock yourself out by all means. Guess I won't be joining any Viper clubs after I purchase my GTS if this is what I have to look forward to. I guess I figured most were car enthusiast but chose team viper. Guess I was wrong, some are merely Viper owners trying to justify their purchase.

I still come for the much valued info and several of the cool members here.

As for which car is faster I could give a crap I won't be buying either.

You should care about which car is faster. As much as you and the Zaino queens may love the styling it's what's under the skin that makes the car, even if you never use it or appreciate it. The Viper wouldn't be squat if it came with a mediocre V8, leaf springs and puny little 245 tires.

You posers need to get on board with the performance enthusiasts or our Vipers will fade into the history books.

Hate to break your heart Chuckie but I don't own any Zaino, belong to any car club, and 30yrs old. The probably the most atypical Vette owner as you can get. I have 335's on the rear and at the track no less than once a month. Far from the Show and Shine queens here, I drive the piss out of all my cars. While many are here boating about how they don't need any more power from the new Coupe when they have "exclusivity" I'm out trying to better my times.

Poser, FAR from it...

So you came here spouting all kinds of pro vette posts, indicated a desire to buy a Gen II and yet you are constantly on the Gen III forum dissing the SRT in favor of the Z06. And you wonder why you did not receive a red carpet.

And please, go ahead and attack the whole Viper owner body as if there are no performance vehicle owners and they are all posers/garage queens. I can't recall anyone, even you, calling the Viper a secretary car. Yet I see vettes that fit that description every day.

Bye

I wouldn't say pro-Vette because that would be trollish to do on a Viper site. But I do try to add truth and some opinion to my posts. Often I do agree, and I would/will buy a Viper before I buy Corvette. But knowing that MOPAR (well what's left of it now that DC bought it  ) is capable of building awesome cars I feel let down they didn't respond to the Corvettes challenge. The responded by grafting a top to a convertible, don't impress me.

I was only responding to Chuck who made the same statement about Vette owners. Sure there are some old fart Vette owners just like there are Viper posers. There are some in EVERY group. As far as being a Secretary's car, you are correct they are much more tame then Vipers. But they're quite a few Female Viper owners and the LARGE majority of them are SRT's because they don't have the lumpy cam, more forgiving suspension and a Cup holder for their Starbuck's Latte.

Not bashing the car you the attitude of some owners, just something I get to look forward to as a near future owner.

Shame on you all. I don't need or want this crap in my life. I own a 2004 turbo cabriolet and a SRT-10. I have owned in the past C-5's, C-4's, many C-3's and a 57. I still own a 66 427 roadster. As many of you, I have had numerous bikes, muscle cars and sports cars. I like them. I like them a lot. Went for a top down cruise today just to get my head together after a few challanges I have on a few apt. complexes I own in the South. My wife and I took the Porsche and had a great day.

I like cars. Always have and alway will. There will always be a faster, better and more desireable ones in my future and I'm 59. My next car will be a V-12 Ferrari, 575M or newer.

I don't like most of you. For this, against that, faster, no maybe not, but he said..... Most of you guys don't get it as far as I'm concerned and I am sure you really don't give a flying F regarding my opinion.

I am history. I will be calling tomorrow to give up my VCA membership. Never will I follow the lunatic threads that show up constantly on this site. Tech stuff is available from more than this source. I will be deleting my name from this site.

Most of you that participate in this site are a bunch of "richards". You can't appreciate another's point of view much less be decent to anyone that does not share your own opinion. I certainly don't appreciate yours.

I will still be going to my friends at K&N Filter to have stock and R&D data collected on my Viper. I am doing it for my interest only and if they can make a better product, so be it. My data will remain just that, my data. I will not be sharing any dyno results with members of this board or any VCA members on the simple filter tests or any other mods as I make them. I can get my own information without taking risk that one of you will start knocking my cars, ideas or suggestions, etc.

I freely admit, your cars are better than mine, you are all so much more affluent than I, and you are all better than I am in all things especially Viper. I don't belong here. You really have a neat Car Club. BFD

Mopar426,

Your posts do seem to be partial to Corvettes, or perhaps you are looking to provide a counterpoint to the fervent Viper owners who love their car above all others.

I owned a Corvette and loved it, but there is an exclusivity to the Viper that is undeniable. Especially if you drive the car regularly out on the road.
The new Z06 may be made in relatively low numbers for this first year, but the fact that the styling is so close to the base C6 Corvette means that it will be mostly mistaken for the other 40,000 Corvettes on the roads this year, except by the watchful eyes of avid fans (me included).

The exclusivity of the Viper is important to some people, and irrelevant to others.

The new Z06 looks like a great car, and a great value (once the dealer gouging subsides). But it has had more than a year of hype and publicity, and to stand up well against that anticipation is very hard to do well.
Especially when you are on a competitor car's website.

Larry,

Thanks for generalizing us all into one convenient mass of idiots. I'm sure that it's simpler to lump us all into one negative group, than to see the larger collection of helpful posts on the VCA that support owners in maintaining and customizing their Viper's.

I haven't been to any automotive make-specific website that didn't have super-enthusiasts who are quick to shoot down inevitable trolls who openly criticize their favorite car.

You may believe that you are even handed, but talking on internet forums is a bit trickier than you might guess.
And if you are talking on an enthusiast's forum, it helps if you present an objective perspective, as fact-filled as possible. If you shoot down our favorite car, you will need to have a thick skin to survive the reprisals of the most vocal folks here.

Your leaving is likely your loss, but if you have had nothing positive to contribute so far, then you likely won't be missed.

In the future, it helps to just participate in threads where you can both benefit from, and contribute to equally.
And just ignore the threads that are a slew of testosterone-filled jabs.

As far as the Z06 goes, it had early tests including an 11.5 and 11.7 1/4 mile time. And like the early tests of the Ferrari F430, and most recently the 11 second test of the Gallardo have shown to be a bit quicker than later tests.

Without pointing any fingers about the validity of those tests, it's better to look to the future for tests with full production cars, tested against one another on the same track, with the same drivers, on the same day.

Road & Track's test of the Z06 showed that despite the Z06's amazing specs, it might not be the absolute Viper "slayer" that it has been claimed to be over the last year in the press.

Hopefully, this report is real and further shows that the Viper is still very much in the game, holding it's own against the new Z06 and pricey European performance cars as well. :2tu:

Snakester, Thanks for contributing a bit of perspective...I think we needed that after those two posts. I'm still not quite sure what got Larry so agitated;like you,I've seen more trash talk on a number of other boards...did I miss something?
Personally, I'm enjoying the experience of being part of the Viper Nation.Just my .02.

How does my post have anything to do with you or Vette owners? Isn't it obvious I was referring to specific types of Viper owners?

I was only responding to Chuck who made the same statement about Vette owners.

Again, I never said squat about Vette owners and have NEVER painted them with a broad brush, like some have accused me of. Go back and read...and then read it again. When a little light goes on and the thought "Oh, I see now" pops into your brain edit the reference to me out of your post.

You gotta be kidding. You think people aren't decent at this site? Don't visit the Alley if you're ticker aint good.

Gawd, you couldn't be more dramatic. Relax. Just because there's not an incessant amount of butt-kissing going on doesn't mean everything else is "richard" calling. Just some mildly spirited conflicting views and opinions. What's the big deal?
