It looks like the EPA just released the final gas mileage figures for the '08. Despite adding a whopping 90 horsepower to the output, the gas mileage INCREASED by 17% over the previous SRT10. So what does that mean for 2008 Viper buyers? Lower gas guzzler taxes - a LOT lower: Instead of the $3,000 we are so used to paying, the 2008 Viper will only be taxed $1700 - even lower than first estimated!
And here is the amazing bottom line: This car has a totally different and vastly improved drivetrain from front to back. Ninety more horsepower, better tires, better handling, better shifting, better "planting" with an improved rear end, as well as a brand new hood. Yet the 2008 will end up costing $50.00 less for the Roadster than in 2006 and (gulp) $550.00 LESS for the Coupe!!
Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?
Oh, and in chatting with some of the dealers and SRT folks over the weekend we were reminded that they were really pushing for Vipers to be sold through dealerships that have certified Viper techs and more of a Viper focus overall. We all know how some of the "ma & pa" dealerships didn't help Viper values by liquidating them after they collected dust in rural nowhere. Thus the renewed focus on "Viper-centric" dealerships. So when you order your '08 make sure that the dealership has the allocation and a Viper tech on staff. You don't want t be one of those folks from the old days of Viper ordering that talk about waiting over a year to get their car because the dealership couldn't get 'em...
