Curb and Wheel Rim Collided

Well it had to happen. I scraped my right (passenger) front rim against the curb. Does anyone who has changed tires and rims feel like selling me the right front rim, obviously in pristine condition? This is for an 2004

Did the same thing on my right rear wheel last month. Wasn't even a curb - it was a lip on the road leading to the curb that was just high enough to scrape the rim edge. Anybody have a smokecoat VCA Edition rim laying around?

Definitely consider getting it repaired. It is painless (they actually can come to your house!) and looks like new!

Chris, not sure this will help because I believe those rims are chrome, but if they are a fake chrome (paint), then Hubcap and Wheel could probably fix them. Dang that smarts!

Sorry to bust anyone's bubble, but these rims are a bear to fix, as there is some funky clearcoat on them. We have shipped to California, had them done by a remote service, and sent to an expert in Omaha. The answer was none could get them to match the others. The only solution we found was to take the other rim on the same side of the car, and have both rims clearcoated at the same time. This way they appear the same , though they won't match the other side. If anyone finds out about anyone who can actually match these rims , please drop the info on the board, as retail on these wheels is in the second mortgage league.

i ran over the mother-in-law (I wish! Just kidding)... denture marks left to remind me of the dream I'll never fulfill.

It's OK, the dent would be a lot bigger!

Repair it. it's pretty darn easy if you didn't have a mother-in-law with porcelain veneers. They leave a heck of an impression!

Don't feel bad! We all do it (if you can admit it!).

I really hope you are wrong. I called dodge(three diff dealers) and they want 2800.00+ PER RIM. I have done research on "curb rash" and there are a lot of companies that say they can do it. Mine is, fortunately, a minor, but noticable, case of "rash" It seems it's like everything else, maybe it can be done and maybe it can't. I'll try to post results when I get around to doing it. I guess this may be a common problem

I had a rim repaired at a place called Wheel Technologies in Dallas. After the repair, you can definitely tell the difference, the repaired wheel does not have the reflectivity of the factory rims. Of course, after they were done, they mentioned the fact that they can't get the clear powdercoat the same as the factory and they don't know how Dodge does it. Maybe you should consider getting all the rims chromed? Or maybe its a good time for an upgrade - how much are those Sidewinder rims?

As jk noted that is what we have run into,also, I realize the rims are mega priced, so that is why we have gone the other route of matching a side. If one ever finds out what the supplier uses to get this high polish and their clear coat formula, we would all be indebted - now we are just in debt to repair.

I have curbed one of my rim (polished, NOT smoked). I checked prices and repairing. Decided to try it myself, why not? I could still replace it or have it repaired if I botch it up, right?

Taped off the damaged area, sanded it, metal polished it, waxed it. 20$ in stuff and 1 hour work. Its shiny. Yes there is a slight line where the clear coat has been removed. Yes, the wheel will now need a periodic wax application. Turned out good enough for me.

I just got my Viper back from repair. Misshifted into 2nd instead of 4th and went sideways into a mailbox. Just before recovery I curbed the whole other side. Just glad I didn't do any permanent damage except to the carfax report. I never was planning on selling it anyway.

Same problem parking next to a curb. I took the tire off the rim and turned it on a wheel balancer while holding a lathe tool bit to the rim. It cleaned up real nice. next I burnished and polished it. A little clearcoat and it looks 95% new. No one sees it. When winter comes I am going to send it to my wheel shop where we repair rims and redo it. After I do it I will have a better feel for the cost which should be in the $250.00 - $450.00 range. We can even repair broken rims and bent rims in the wheel shop.
