with 7500 miles on it and in very good shape, 1 owner, clean title, and good car fax. This is an out of state dealership and the car is not in stock. He said to me that he will provide me pictures of this car. Ok, I am all fine with that. Here is what bothers me, he mentioned that I would need to sign a sales agreement to get the car to the dealership. :lame: He must think I am a Sam Sausage Head. You expect me to sign a sales agreement when I have not actually looked and inspected the car. He also stated that his asking price would be 42,000.00. He is a bit on the high side if you ask me. I beleive I could get the price reduced. I am still waiting on those pics he is suppose to be sending me. I will keep you guys posted.

Ask him how he's selling a car he doesn't have?

And if he's selling as a middle man/consignment ask to speak to the owner (i.e. to have the owner contact you).

There are PLENTY of Vipers out there for sale. If this seller rubs you the wrong way, move onto another one.

You can setup Sales that have requirements. I did this when I bought mine. I live in Calgary, AB and bought one in St. Louis. When we agreed, I sent the dealer full cash payment and in the bill of sale, it was stated that the sale was still subject to my inspection, else my money would be returned in full. As well the dealer said he would reimburse me the flight etc. if the car did not pass my inspection. Needless to say, it was immaculate and I drove it all the way home.

There are ways to put yourself out there, but still doing it safely.

All good advice & it sounds like KFactor had done something similar before, maybe pm him or give him a call. (Sam Sausage Head) Don't think I"ve ever heard that one before! & like jjp11 said, there's plenty of them out there, don't rush into anything. & the price definitely sounds High. JMO! Good Luck!

NOTE: In MY OPINION...there are "brokers" and there are"dealerships" and there are "Dodge dealerships" and there are "trustworthy Dodge Viper dealerships" ...all of which can make a huge difference in your buying experience and the end product itself. This is all fairly easy to sort through with a little "VCA help".

This is "Chambers" first post. Is he serious?

Why wouldn’t I be? Why does my first post have to question if I am serious? I have been on several other Viper discussion boards and many other boards related to various topics. I dont get it.

I have done similar things several time on new cars, I want a car they don't have it, I sign an agreement and put $200 down, with the understanding I get the $200 back it I do not like the car.
On new cars I guess as dealer can't request it from another deal unless they have a sign agreement. Usually I have taken the car but once I didn't and got my money back.

Laws very state to state but usually you can a cool down period to cancel the deal.

Thanks Jwolf, I think this is something I will look into. The dealership told me the car was owned by someone in Oklahoma. I am thinking they dont want the car in their stock unless someone has made a firm commitment to buy it. I am still waiting on pics. Maybe that is what I will do sign an agreement with $200.00 down and the agreement will be based on a successful by myself and a Viper Tech.

Because many have come on here to trash a dealer or stir things up.

Ok, welcome.

Steve, I did some posts on here Before I actually bought my car, How else are you going to find out about Vipers if you don't go directly to the source. And I know I asked some really Dumb questions, but you've got to start somewhere. Also, if you hang around on here long enough you'll see other Newbies ask the same Dumb questions I asked & those before me! JMO

I bought my viper from a distance. I had it inspected by the local Dodge Dealer at the sellers location, The Dodge Dealer was not connected in the deal in any way, The seller took the car to them, I paid them $150 and they did the Chrysler Certified used car inspection. and faxed me the report, I paid them with my CC.

Welcome Chambers. This is certainly a good place to learn. A newbie who preceded you has been a total Sausage-Head....probably has folks a little wary of new "trolls". Good luck finding the right car for you!

Chambers go really slow and do not fall in love at first sight. It will cloud your judgement. Oh yeah and your IQ falls by 20 points as soon as you set behind the wheel. Go very very slow at first, it's a snake it will bite you. Then just enjoy the ride.

Chambers, there is a dealership in Central Ohio that told me something kind of similar and they already sell Vipers on the showroom floor. The sales manager and I discussed bringing in an out-of-state car from either another dealership or even a private owner. He stated that for me to make it happen, I would have to sign something basically stating that I would agree to buy it. Otherwise it wasn't in the dealership's best interest to bring in a specific car for no specific buyer. Difference is that they are also a certified Viper service center so I somewhat trusted them looking the car over for me.......still, it was understood that before I signed anything, IF I signed anything, the car would need to be fully inspected before shipping. Preferably by a current owner of said model year who knew what to look for.

Well guest what? After talking to the dealer I found out where he was getting the car. The car is actual being sold on Edmunds
http://edmunds.autotrader.com/fyc/v...=b&num_records=25&cardist=1048&standard=false

The owner only wants 37,500.00 for it and the dealer is adding an additional 5000.00 on it. This more than likely explains the 42,000.00 he wants for the car. I guess the dealership is trying to cover their shipping, storage, insurance, and maintenance cost for the car.

2001 viper RT 10 Always kept in garage under cover.never been in rain or wet road. Just like new. Never been raced.
Original tires like new.

Above copy from Edmunds ad... If you buy this car, don't drive it until you get new shoes on it... Original Tires are too old and will be like driving on hockey pucks now. Hook up with one of our VCA vendors for a new set.

Agree with Kala, as you have 10 year old tires, so figure you will have an extra 2K in the price by the time you get done getting the olds dismounted and the new ones one.

Does the car have both tops, as this is also critical --- RTs are worth more with both tops as the hardtop can be extremely expensive.

No I did not buy it. Guess what though, the dealership brought it and has it for sale for 44,500.00. The owner of the car had it for sale for 37,500.00. That is a hell of a mark up.
