Carlman,
The Stock Alpine Cd player will play CDRs only, not CDRW. Use a good quality burnable however, a few cheapos would not play, which goes for any audio gear, not specifically the Viper's Alpine I guess. The name Pacific Digital comes to mind as a cheapo that would not play, when the 100 spindle of CDR goes for 2.99 after scratch and sniff rebate, that a good indication there could be trouble, get a some good ones!!!
As for driving the car back, the possibilities of problems occurring during such a long haul is enough to ship for most. My option to drive was 3000 miles, thru the Rocky mountains from the extreme west coast to Ontario. After debate I just had it shipped and flew home and waited for the car. My reasons:
1. Where to stay at night, knowing the car would be safe from standard parking spaces.
2. Inclement weather.
3. Breakdown in foreign area, local mechanic, is that one of them thar "V-8 Dodges??".
4. Temptation to speed in a 500 horsepower car, that you just bought, on roads you don't not know, can be a dangerous mix for accidents.
5. One ill places stone chip or dent from the trip would a nasty reminder of your beginning to Viper ownership!
6. Vipers are peculiar cars and sometimes need a little dialing in. (In my case I blew the timing chain cover gasket right off the car in areas within the first week of owning the car. Had I driven it home it would have happened somewhere in the mountains, how nice! Trusting no one to do the repair, I did it myself, which would not have been an option in foreign soil, uhhhh, can a borrow your tool box and shop for a day??
)
that was some of the things that I thought of, sure there is more.
maybe have alternating shifts with your son at the hotels, like 4 hour sentry watch, only better!!
keep us posted, your son will not want to hear my thoughts, tell him sorry!!!hahaha
