Derek and Justin Bell to pilot Comp Coupes in WCGT in \'06
LAS VEGAS (Nov. 4, 2005) – Molyshield International Chairman and CEO Dr. John P Mancini and Peter Lockhart, Managing Member of Operations for Molyshield Race Team LLC., have announced that Derek and Justin Bell have agreed to be a part of the team’s effort in the 2006 SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Championship.
The Bells will be part of Molyshield’s Dodge Viper Competition Coupe program, which will showcase four cars next year in the 10-event series.
“Justin Bell is the first driver announced to pilot one of our team’s four Viper Competition Coupes,” Lockhart said. “Of course, we are tremendously excited to launch our new GT program with Justin and Derek as part of our 2006 program.”
Justin Bell said he couldn’t wait to get back into a Dodge for the SPEED GT season, which is set to begin March 17 with the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring event at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Fla.
"The opportunity to be an integral part of a professional team like Molyshield Racing is a driver’s dream, and it feels great to be coming back to the Dodge family, as we all experienced so much success in the late nineties with the Oreca Team Viper in the GT2 World Championship,” Bell said. “The 1998 Championship and 1997 Le Mans win were the first big wins for Dodge in international racing and landmarks in my career. Renewing my relationship with the Dodge Brand from behind the wheel of a Competition Viper makes me very excited about our chances in SPEED GT in 2006."
With Justin behind the wheel, Derek will be looked upon for support both in marketing the Molyshield brand and other various roles on the team. Lockhart said Derek’s history as a driver makes him a perfect fit for the team’s image.
"Derek has a history in motorsports that fits perfectly with the brand image of Molyshield as a five-time winner of the Le Mans 24 Hour race, two-time World Sportscar Champion, two-time Daytona 24 Hour winner and an established ambassador for the sport," Lockhart said. “Derek will become a spokesman for Molyshield International in support of its worldwide marketing efforts.”
Bell said he’s happy for his son’s ride and for the opportunity to revisit, in a way, his past success.
"I am very pleased to see Justin getting the opportunity he deserves with a sponsor that can support a winning team,” Derek said. “Personally, by collaborating with Molyshield, I am also renewing a relationship from years ago in Europe. I have great memories of that successful time in my racing career and Molyshield was very much a part of that. I look forward to having fun representing the brand, as well as helping the team win races."
