Did you buy your Viper because of it\'s speed or style?

I only ask this because I always say I buy a car for it's style not speed and because I want a Viper people call me a hippocrite, etc etc. I was just curious what you folks liked most when you first got the idea to buy Dodge's Supersnake.

Styling - Number One!!! It is a piece of American Art!

The fact that it packs a powerful V10 punch is an added bonus!

I agree 100% style, I first saw the viper I fell in love and I didnt know anything about it, I love the car for what it is, and how it's made and I am originally from russia, I finally bought my first snake last week, a 97 gts blue/white stripes, waiting for it to be delivered now.

Bought mine for it's speed, I had no idea how much attention it would attract. I've never been one to go to car shows and all that poser stuff, the car looks better in real life than photos.

100% for the look of the car. I love this car!!! I did not buy the car to show off, get girls, or go fast. I just loved the car since it was introduced. Tried to get my father to get one since they came out so I could live vicariously through him but I later found out that it was a loose loose situation so I ended up buying one instead. My father is more the luxury sports car man.

Totally both. The thing is you can make any car fast if you sink enough $$ into it, but no car has the presence of a Viper!

Neither.

I bought it for *acceleration*, which is a bit different than "speed" - I don't really care to go that fast (and perhaps that explains my clean record), but I love the feeling of acceleration, and as a result, the feeling of control - the ability to do what I want when I want. Previously, I got my acceleration jollies from a sport motorcycle (highest hp and fastest 1/4 mile from 1990-1996), but got hooked when a friend had me to borrow his Viper for an afternoon.

OK, OK, I like the style, too. Call it 70% acceleration, 30% looks.

BOTH. You get the style of a viper and the V10 performance. For a great price. But it wasent fast enough so I had to MOD it muahahahah

I bought mine for the TOTAL package, including great styling and awesome power and speed, and yet so unique you never see one unless you go into my garage.

Excellent question. I was actually going to post the same question. I have not bought one yet but I got interested because of the look and the rarity. I can honestly say I have not seen one in seven or eight years. I'm not even going to look until I have the funds in hand.

It's easy to say "both" but which of "speed" or "style" got you first interested ?

Outrageously awesome styling first and speed second. Thats why I don't have a Gen III yet.

Bigazz V10 and performance. Styling was a terrific bonus but not a factor in purchase.

I absolutely love the speed, but the styling is what 1st caught my eye. I wanted a Viper since 92' (I was 11), so all I knew back then was "wow that car is gorgeous"! A friend and I used to say if we could never afford a Viper, we'd buy the body and dump a 4 cylinder in it just so we could have the styling of the body. Luckily, it never came to that!

My order of importance is:
1. Price.
2. Handling.
3. Acceleration.
4. Top speed.
5. Styling.

And that's probably why my car is usually the dirtiest at meets. No, I don't wax it for 4 hours and drive it for 1 hour.

When I saw a steel grey GTS for sale at a high end car dealership, I didn’t even know what it was, I just new It looked bad ass. I went back to take a closer look and found out it was an all American Dodge Viper and it was a prices I could afford. I new this was the next car I’d buy.
The v10 performance is a must for a car that draws this much attention. It has to have an engine to back it up. I use to think I would have bought a viper even if it had a Corvettes equivalent V8, but I think I was just kidding myself. It’s a package deal. If the viper had it’s muscular beauty and no hp to back it up, I think it would be another prowler. Fantastic looking car but all show and no go.

It's all about the looks baby like everything else in life!!! You can put a rocket on a **** and make it go fast. It's just so sinister looking...especially at dawn the Viper looks like Armageddon on wheels!

lots of reasons why i chose to buy a viper. but to be direct to the point with your choices. i chose both. the viper is the one and only car that covers it best when it comes to these options. if i could only have one car i would choose a viper. it does and says so much for just one car. its character is off the charts compared to other cars

My first filter factor was defintely style. I wanted something people would stare and take pictures of. That narrowed it down to a Viper or older Ferrari (in price range). The deciding factor was the performance, because a Viper beats the crap out of older Ferrari's. If all I wanted was performance I think Vettes are the best bang for your buck, buck then again no one takes pictures of you in your vette while your driving on the interstate.

For both. And also because here in Switzerland you really don't see a lot Viper respect to other cars like Ferrari's that you can easily see several times a day. Style, price and rarity were definitely were a big input to buy one.

How early? LOL!!! My father had loved the 96 in Black with Silver stripes but then when he found out about the basic top, no ABS, Side curtains, rough ride, and no airbags, he just laughed at me. The funny part is now that I got the Viper, he will take it probably once a month to drive to a local destination. He complains about the car so much but I think deep down he likes it minus the rough ride, and extreme power. So I guess he likes the look of the vehicle.

I personally bought the RT/10 for its styling, plus I've always loved targa top vehicles. However, Vipers are a total package - an American icon of style, speed, performance, sex appeal, and exclusiveness. Take any of those as a specific category and you'll find the Viper at the top with very little competition...but with all categories combined, the Viper has NO competition.
