I am going to go cat less on my 98 GTS and have been doing some research on what to do about cat sims. I have found somthing on ebay that know one has mentioned before.
Here is a link.

What do you guys think of this? I am not sure what how it is suppost to work but, for the price if it does that would be great.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

It looks like it simply moves the O2 sensor further out from direct flow. I guess it could work? But if it was that simple, don't you think everyone would be running that way?

It's not that expensive, give it a try and post the results.

The rear O2's on a car check for a HOTTER temp not a cooler one. I suspect this won't do anything. If it does, it will throw a code for the O2's not working. IMHO.

I would do a little more research. I think that up until a certain year you could remove the cats without a code. I could be wrong??????

If you need a SIM, just call ROE... they have them and they work great! Catless sounds really good.

Thanks Cody,
From what I can gather from this sight I do need sims on my 98.
I think that these would be a very clean install without messing with the wiring.
We will see how they work.

You will love the way it sounds. I had a couple 1998's and they are still one of my favorite years.

Let us know how it goes.

Here is what the seller claims these will do.

"Your o2 sensor has an element in it that detects the presents of oxygen. The element then reacts to the amount o2 in the stream. When there is too much oxygen, the o2 sends the single that something is not right with you cat(s). So putting on the cel fix removes it out of the stream, while still being able to sample the exhuast at the correct o2 levels that it is programed for. Yes it is a general OBD II fix for most, if not all OBD II cars. For the past 3 years that I have been selling and using this product, I have had no problems nor heard of any.

What I mean by putting your ecu into readyness mode is that your car will pass an emissions test if they hook it up to your ecu. So it makes it a full loop. All an electrical fix is just a resistor, so when you install the electrical one, it doesn't send back the signal to the ecu, so the light turns off, but your ecu is not in a loop and is always searching for the signal that is never there with those electrical fixes. With my fix the circuit is complete and the ecu reads that it is ready and receiving all signals that it needs."

What do you guys think of this?

Some 98's would throw a code, some would not. Your guess is as good as mine as to whether yours will. The front O2 sensors are heated sensors. The reason for the failure upon removing the cat was for sensor failure to reach the correct temp.

My guess is that this "fix" will throw a code since it will remove the sensor from the main exhaust stream and will not get hot enough.

Well my new Borla exhaust is on the way, I need to figure out how to go about this.
I think for the cost I will try these, maybe I could be onto something.
If not I guesss I will just have to try again with the Roe sims.

Thanks for the input guys, keep the info coming!! :nana:

I'm going to try it on my 02 (a car we know will throw the code) and let you know. It will take me a little while because my motor is still all apart and waiting on some backordered parts! If some one can do it before I can please let us know how it goes.

Early 98s may not throw a code. Look for the build date. There are several locations where 11/98 and signatures have been written on my car in white. The most obvious one is on the under area of the engine on the passenger side. Or you could just do it by the VIN.

Going by that, I doubt my car would pass. Worth a shot either way though I guess.

I just ordered them, I hope to get my exaust on in the next two weeks.
I will post the results when it is done.
I may have just wasted 24 bucks, but I figure it is worth a shot.

Ok to sum this up,
I bought these and they would not fit because there is not enough room between the frame and the exhaust pipe where the sensor goes in. So if they would work is still a question??
I was installing the Borla exhaust.

Also, my car did throw a code and the engine light did come on.

I now have the very nice plug and play cat sims from Casper electronics, THANKS TO JON B at Parts Rack.

By the way you can get rid of this engine light by unplugging your battery for about 10 minutes, it resets the computer and clears the code.
