I'm chiming in a little late on this thread but here's my take:
Some people should have kids; some people should not.
Unfortunately, some people that should not, do (Al Bundy, if you care to refer to an character in a sitcom as an example)... and some people that should, do not.
I personally think virtuous, intelligent people with loving hearts, strength of character and courage should have lots of kids, and populate the world with those kind of people.
Lord knows too many losers have chosen to (or failed to chose not to) have big families, we need good people to reproduce and offset that trend.
I'm pretty sure those that advised against kids are better off not having them.
Just consider the source when asking for advice!
And to those that would say "I wouldn't want to bring a kid into this messed up world" I say, what will the world be like if we don't??
