I put in a set of Polk audio (I think) and once you change the head unit, it makes a hell of a lot of difference. I would change the center woofers as well, they are 8".

I have done quite a bit with this, sizes, types, grills,...

With no door panel modifications, a 5 1'4" component speaker is the way to go. I used Focal.

The 6" JL Audio sub works well for the sub replacement. I siliconed the existing enclosure, which also helped.

I've also changed the head unit, wiring, amp,... and am currently looking at a custom sub enclosure.

Drop me a PM if you have any questions.

People have, in the past, recommended the MB Quartz. I've got the diamond audio and I love them. I think of them as a poor man's MB Quartz.

Fortunately, there are a lot of direct replacement speakers for this car. Unfortunately, the stock head stinks [in my opinion] so replacing that did wonders for me.

sbkim,

I went with Panasonic components since I get a discount. Just look for a component set with a 6.5" mid/woofer and good separate tweeter. You have to listen to them to decide what type you like. JL Audio makes a good sub. Since you have a GTS you should replace your rear 6.5" with a small sub since you never hear the highs from the rear anyway. Besides with the tweeter firing directly at you from the doors you get plenty of high frequency. if you really want to go low get a separate sub like a bazooka or make an enclosure that fits in your trunk.

5 1/4' Fujitsu Eclipses are direct replacement.

I did coaxials and left the door tweeters in. Im pretty happy with it. The viper (or any car for that matter) is the worst acoustical chamber you could ever have. Just get a good quality speaker (JL, Kicker, JBL, Eclipse, Pioneer, Alpine etc. . .) and you wont go wrong.

thanks a lot for the replies. I am definitely looking for something that requires little to no modifications to make it fit. So it seems like 5.25 is the answer...

I would also greatly appreciate specific model numbers.

FYI, I will be adding alpine 7995 headunit, and 2 separate amps.

thanks!

sbkim,

If you go with the smaller door woofers you won't get as much low end. So you'll need some type of subwoofer to get the whole frequency range. Not that 6.5" will get you that much more but generally the bigger the cone the lower it can go without distortion.

good point. i like to do 6 or 6.5 but only if no modifications are required. i am not too concerned about the low end as i will be running a single 10 in the back

Exactly HOW plug and play are these suggested replacement speakers? I.e., no cutting, soldering, etc.?

5 1/4 seperates with a 3/4" tweeter are direct replacements for the factory speakers. Almost all brands will fit.

I went with MB Quart 6 1/2 seperates and had to trim the door ring to get them to fit.
