Are there any real disadvantages of purchasing a viper from the east coast?

I just heard that the salted roads might cause rust on the underbody and that the weather might be harsh on the paint.

Kind of a stupid question but just had to ask :(

Thanks for your guys time!

Northeast or Southeast? Southeast is very safe as we have basically no winter compared to the rest of you guys, iced up roads maybe once or twice a year here in GA.

No snow other than an inch or two and that usually occurs in March for about a day or two and it's gone.

hahaha! What out for vipers that are stored in houses with ODD numbers.... I would pick a car in between lets say.... Iowa and Ohio.. Anything left or right of that and be careful

Joseph:

this is not intended as a slam against you - however, where were the "East coast vipers are faster" at the 5/15-16th Cecil County MD, National Street Car Association viper/vette shootout. The reports are one viper and several much faster vettes.

We guarantee that your brethren in the midwest will give a much better showing at that Quaker City, July 16th-17th event. I hope all the Ohio, Pa, Michigan, Kentucky, Southern NY and W Virginia members will turnout for this event. Joe, make amends get some of those "East Coast" vipers to this event. Once again, not a slam, just disappointment.

  Who the "F" in there right mind would drive a VIPER in the winter or early Spring ??

I purchased my VIPER from the East Coast and the car is in Show Room condition..Au Contraire I think EC Viper owners take better care of there cars because they cherish the time with them more.

Us Left Coasters beat the Snot out of our cars all year long :D
I would actually suggest an East Coast Snake or West..Just my 2 cents.

Cheers

No slam or anything here, but I believe that anyone who realizes that it is "Just" a car, it is metal, plastic, rubber and glass just like any other vehicle, albeit a more expensive, powerful and AWESOME one!! But trust me, as the New England region recently showed on our poker run with 7 vipers slithering through the rain, if it gets wet or dirty or salty, it WILL wash off. As long as after you drive it in the salt, or sand or rain, you wash it and get all of the stuff off, there is no reason it should not last just as long as any other car. Plus with the looooooong winters up here and the cold early spring, who would want to spend >50k for a car only to drive it 5 months out of the year? Just MHO....

Hey Jack - red-eye back from CA on Friday night kept me away. Where were you in Atlanta when we all got rained out a few weeks back? :)

I'll start showing up to these if I can... and I even have spousal support. So one of these days you'll be surprised.

SoCal's Yellow Fever has it right, my car isn't even out of storage for this years cruising season yet. There are exceptions as with anything. There is a guy local to me that drives his venom all year in all weather. The wheels are curbed, and the rest of the car shows each adverse day it has been driven.

My advise is definately consider the combo you are looking for where ever it is for sale, and do a very good pre-purchase inspection. As for everyone else beside the above mentioned venom owner, people drive vettes all year in this part of the country, NOT VIPERS.

make it July 16th and 17th, the viper/vette action at an excellent strip should be incentive

Why have such a pristine ride and not enjoy it for over half of the year??? Even though "clean up" takes considerably longer after a wet/winter ride, it is WELL worth the time. After even a week of not driving it, I go into withdrawals........maybe that'll go away with time - after all, I've only had it two months. I don't know how some of you guys can lock her away for 6 months of the year... Maybe I should buy two - one for driving and one for show!

I would be one of those "F"'s!!!! :headbang: :headbang:

Why not? Just because its cold does not mean you cannot drive it!

Yellow Fever,
Plenty of HP and no traction.

Straight acceleration is not too bad, but the hitting accelerator in the curves will give you a nasty remainder of the cold temperatures. I made a nice 270 entering the highway last winter...

I did just the same thing last week and it's not even winter yet! As you guys have recommended in other threads, don't get on it in the corners.......get some seat time before pushing it.... I should have heeded your advice. I've learned to respect the torque this thing puts out! Thankfully no damage

This is as close as my Viper got to snow this year (left coast):

The next day was worse!:

The Tahoe and Sequoia needed cat tracks that day. The Viper demanded that I close the garage door.

JD and Jack B. I was in Maryland and saw two Vipers, one ran his buddy's SC Vette and left. If I'd known that I wouldn't have loaned the Vette guy a helmet. The Vette guys were there looking for snakes and came away empty. Some were in the 9's, looking for a race.

JD we met in Atlanta, thanks for coming out and hope to see you, Jack B and as many snakes as possible in Milan, MI the weekend of June 11th. Let's see how fast East coast, West Coast, North Coast (from Ohio) and Southern snakes can go. See ya there. Sorry for the hijack.
