It seems we're no closer than many months ago to knowing about our ACR/GT2 harnesses. Here's my correspondence with DC today:

Viper ACR 5 Point Harness Recall Notification
Comments:
---------
I have never been notified about the recall for the ACR Harnesses. ACR/GT2 Viper Owners on our Viper Club Web Site are very concerned and await some feedback. We know that the new harnesses have been implemented into new production Vipers. Please advise when I may expect a remedy. Thanks!

The response:

"Thank you for your recent e-mail to DaimlerChrysler Motors Corporation.
Records indicate this vehicle is not currently involved in any outstanding factory recalls. If your vehicle is involved in any future recalls, a notice will be sent to your postal address."

I sent them a copy of the News Release which received this answer:

"Dear Gregory:
I apologize for any confusion.
DaimlerChrysler has not issued a recall at this time for the Viper ACR 5-point racing harness.
The article that you e-mail me was stating "DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler arm is recalling 615 Dodge Viper sports cars to fix problems with optional seat belts for racing use" is accurate, but there is no official recall at this time because DaimlerChrysler is still investigating this concern seeking the best resolution.
When the recall is released, you will be notified by postal mail. For any other recall related questions, please contact the Recall Department directly at 800-853-1403.
Thanks again for writing."

I asked "WHEN?". Patience is a virtue I need to practice. We may be checking our "postal mail" forever.

What's up with DC? This isn't exactly rocket science! The announcement last spring clearly stated that the belts should no longer be used. So if you wanted to track the car, you basically had to pony up the cash for non-oem belts or risk using the original oem set. I choose the later and fortunately did not have an event.

I did get a look a the Team Tech setup on Viper X's GTS. They make the oem stuff look like junk. Perhaps DC should join the KMA club on this issue.

I went ahead and put in TeamTechs. They're superior to the OEM stuff just like Joe says, you can get any color combination you want, and you can send them back and get them re-webbed. Why mess around with something whose purpose is solely to keep you safe? If you don't want to do both sides, pony up the $289 for just the driver's side. Order the clip-in style - it takes about 15 minutes to swap the TeamTechs in for the OEM ACR belts - you don't even need to remove the seat. The peace of mind for me alone was worth the price - and I did both driver & passenger belts - no need to subject my instructor to a risk I'm not willing to take myself.

I agree that DC should make it right, but lets face it, IMO the OEM belts seem more gimmick than feature, and they need to be re-certified every couple years anyway. I'm not plugging for TeamTech, get whatever kind of belts you want. I just figured there wasn't much point waiting around for belts I didn't really want anyway.

Just my $.02

Let me see if I understand this....

They put out a statement that the 5-point harness is defective and absolutely should not be used but then they don't recall them? And all of this during warranty.....

Hey, now THAT'S some customer service!
