I swapped my stocker for a vipar, love it, but I was just in the engine bay yesterday doing a little spit polish cleaning for driving today & got to thinking if I'm OK without a hood pad. I've been told before that I am, but thought I'd ask y'all opinions anyway, since we gor some big brained viper guru's on here. Thnx

Im also curious of that also. My hood pad is in bad shape. I dont even lift the hood at shows anymore bc im worried about what people will say about the pad. Hopefully someone will chime in.

If your intake isn't hitting the underside of the hood now. It likely will, with a hood pad.

I couldnt due to lack of room, but the body shop painted it nice and cleared the underside of the hood so it looks good when its open. Its just one more place you have to clean when washing your car though.

Yea they painted & cleared mine too, looks sweet, a big reason i intended to go without one. But just got to thinking this weekend ... if I don't need one then I definitely don't want one, that's for sure, right now it looks great without it.

I dont have a hood pad on mine.....Zero issues and I justified it with the adittional weight savings

I have been told that the sole purpose of the hood pad is fire suppression. Removing it will not negatively impact the hood or paint, except in case of an engine fire. Weight savings is about the same as if you had a single patty verses a two patty burger at lunch. Hood pads weigh close to nothing.

Its for noise reduction but believe me you cant tell the difference with or without it. My previous 2009 SRT10 had one and my current ACR does not. No difference in noise but not having the rear carpet and insulation in the ********, well thats a different story !!

The main purpose of the hood pad is to keep the radio interference under control. If you pull the pad down you will see metal foil on the top side of the pad. Also, the bottom corners of the pad have the ground wires for the pad. It may effect your radio reception without it.
